Don't trust the skeptics! Trust your own RESULTS!Having waded through all 69 reviews, it's clear that people are either strongly in support of Dr. Young's approach to health and wellness (based on personal experience), or strongly against his ideas/theories. Really ... check it out ... you'll see either five stars or one star.
Interesting though ... if you read carefully, you'll notice that most of the critics and skeptics haven't even tried the program. Instead, they're focused on attacking Dr. Young, his lack of credentials, his lack of published papers, his "mumbo-jumbo" science, etc., etc.
But honestly, who cares? I don't care if he got his degree out of a CrackerJack box. Like most people, I want results that I can see and feel. And that's exactly what I'm experiencing as a result of two things that are the cornerstone to his program: eating more greens and super-hydrating.
No need to follow all the fancy diets, either. It can be as simple or as difficult as you want to make it. Bottom line to his program entails 3 things:
1. Super-hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water (4-5 liters a day)
2. Alkalize the body by eating foods high in alkalinity (and this is where people get stuck ... you don't have to eat like them and fix all those fancy meals ... simply increase the % of veggies at each meal).
3. Supergreens - if you can't get enough veggies, and most of us can't, then use the supplements or powder. I mean you really can't beat them - 49 different organic grasses, vegetables and sprouts; as well as 125 different vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
What does all this sound like? That's right ... grandma's recipe for "good health and longevity".
Again, skip the skeptics and try it for yourself. No doubt your body will thank you for it!
Imaginary Thinking About HealthAn acquaintence, who thought the recipes in Part III of the book looked healthy, ask me to review Parts I and II. Part I is the "science" and rationale for the alkaline diet, part II is his proper way to eat and the plan for implementing the diet.
When I read Part I. I was stunned by the naivety of what was written. Very few statements were scientifically valid and several "theories" about the origin of microorganisms and blood cells were based on disproven theories generated over a century ago.
The book describes Robert young as an internationally recognized authority and lecturer in microbiology and nutrition. Given the absolute absurdity of the scientific discussion, I was curious about the origin of his degrees. A website search indicates his M.S., DSc, Ph.D, and N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy) were obtained from a correspondence school, the American Holistic College of Nutrition, Birmingham, AL, which is not accredited. That explains why they weren't mentioned in the book. A review of journals in the National Library of Medicine also indicates that Dr. Young has never published a science article in a peer-revieved scientific journal.
Young bases his 'theories' of alkaline nutrition on two investigators out of the late 19th century, Antoine Bechamp, and (later) Gunter Enderlein. Both believed that small structures could be seen in "living" blood and within red and white cells that, in conditions of dietary imbalance, especially with acidic foods, these structures could transform into bacteria, then yeast, then fungi, then molds; all of which has been disproven.
I have no doubt that Dr. Young believes all this because he has had no formal training in real science, and because he is probably making abundant money from his books and various instsitutes he and his wife have created.
Books of this type are based on pseudoscience and need to be read with an element of skepticism. It should be, after all, the author's burden to back his claims. Regretfully, this is not done in this type of book. Let me give two examples. First, his qualifications are not listed. A credible expert tells you where he or she was trained. Finally, when a statement is made that is not obvious, a notation is used to reference an article supporting the premise. In this book, we have only a list of references that can't be tied into the text. I looked up several of the references and at least half of them have no relevance to what he said. I think they were included for show.
Folks, we are constantly barraged with propaganda and half-truths. Since we have no laws to protect us from quackism, government propaganda, or advertising, we are going to have to do it ourselves. Let the buyer beware.
To the doubters - this book changed my life !It's hard for me to imagine someone not having amazing results on this program. I don't use his products but I do follow the alkaline diet and the results have been amazing.
I feel great, have tons of energy, don't get jetlag anymore, never get sick, etc, etc.
At the outset of following the program you probably will feel lousy becuase your body needs at least a month to flush out the toxins from all the [bad] food we've all been eating our whole lives. Ever have a hangover? You feel lousy at the time but after the toxicity has left your body your feel much better.
Everyone owes it to themselves to read this book and try the diet for at least a short time.
You think some of his ideas are quacky? Well guess what, medicine is a very young science and it wasn't that long ago that people used leeches! The important thing is the results you get and everyone I've known has had great results with this program.
Don't like the fact that he sells some products? I can understand that - but are you going to let that get in the way of a life where you feel vibrant and great every day?
It costs nothing to follow the diet, and in my experience if you occasionally stray a little from going out to eat, etc. you still feel great as long as you 1) have an initial intensive period of following the diet religiously (maybe for 3-6 months), and 2) only eat acidic food occasionally.
Thank you, Robert and Shelly for this book!
Buy the book but not the productsDr. Young maintains that there is only one disease and only one cure. The desease: too much acidity in the blood; the cure: alkalize. I have read all his books and have followed his advice for more than a year, and its transformed my life in many ways. I had some serious health challenges and spent years researching and consulting and have found nothing more powerful. I certainly recommend his books...BUT I do not recommend buying his products. Although his products are first class, Dr. Young insists on selling them in the most nauseating way possible...through Multi-Level Marketing. Shop around...there are equally good products on the market that are at least half the price and much easier to buy. 5 Stars for the books; 0 Stars for Dr. Young's sales practice (hence the 4 Stars).
A Life Changing BookAFter 3 1/2 weeks of following the Youngs program:
* I have lost 14 pounds
* All feelings of bloat and gas have vanished
* My energy has noticeably increased
* Every afternoon my brain got 'fuzzy' (dull, tired, hard to think) - this has entirely disappeared and I feel sharp and clear
Seeing my great results, a close friend bought the book and is trying it, too. Her results have been even better than mine, because her severe asthma has already lessened in only 10 days.
Some of the reviews here have critized the Youngs for various reasons:
First, "Those who have lost weight on the diet is almost certainly for no other reason than it has the tendency to be low in calories." Eating olive oil, avocados and nuts does NOT create a low calorie diet. Further, I have tried to lose weight in the past by cutting calories - and was spectacularly unsuccessful. We weight loss is happening because I am being cleaned from the inside out, and I can feel it clearly.
Other reviews say this book is '"dumbed down" for the masses' and others refer to it as 'junk science'. I don't need the blessing of "science" to attempt to heal myself. Are these the same experts who jeered at meditation, acupuncture and yoga? am responsible for my health, and the only authority I trust is my own body. It will give me all the feedback I need. I don't need long scientific documents, or the approval of others. As for the claim that there is nothing new about this information - that is exactly right. Acidity and alkalinity have been discussed for decades. Does this mean we can only write books on subjects that are completely new?
As for this comment: "for those of us in the real world, it's more trouble than it's worth." Gee, and all this time I thought I was in the 'real world' and yes, I agree that it's a lot of trouble. But how much trouble is it to be sick? To feel rotten? To be exhausted? To be fat? I really don't want to be one of those people who becomes seriously ill and then looks back and says, "If only I had ..."
Several reviewers criticized the Youngs for selling supplements. Isn't that the ideal work that we all wish for: to do what you love, make a contribution and be richly rewarded? Sounds ideal to me. And as for the comment that "you really can't follow their program without their products." ... absolutely not true. I haven't bought a single one of their supplements and am following their program without difficulty.
This is quite amazing: "I tried to sell the products I bought, but the prices were too high for online sales" and then this same author refers to "greed for many of the MLMers who feed from its trough." The writer admits that he failed in selling the products - yet obviously he was trying to do so. Does that mean he was greedy and trying to profit, too? Quite a contradiction.
Does this program work for everyone? I have no idea. My experience has been nourishing and enriching but we are all individuals, with different bodies and different chemistries. Personally, though, I eat in a very satisfying way, it's easy to follow the program, I feel better than I have in years and plan on living this way from now on. We must indeed listen to our own inner wisdom. Everything else is just static. If you're wondering about the merits of this, try it for a couple of weeks and let your body give you the only answer that matters.
Valuable Information But Be Careful!!!!!I've learned a lot from this book, and it really changed the way I view food. Basically, according to this book, almost all the food I have been eating is bad for me, even fresh organic fruits that contain natural sugar (apples, melons, etc...), because sugar feeds the bad bacteria in our bodies.
From what I've gathered, the ideal diet would be to eat raw fresh organic green vegetables picked from the garden and consume within a few days. Fortunately, it is okay to cheat and have a treat once in awhile, such as once a month. The "treat" can be fish for dinner or something like that. I was open to the concept, but one thing that I think Dr. Young needs to mention and mention again and again, or maybe he did and I missed it, is that every one of us is different. Our body absorbs food differently.
Although it did mention to consult my doctor before changing my diet, I completely forgot that I am extremely sensitive to iodine intake. I can't even take the recommended dozage for a healthy person. I have to keep my diet extremely low on iodine, otherwise, my thyroid would become overactive.
While reading this book, I changed my diet to 70% raw vegetables, did the colon and liver cleansing, and started taking the Garden of Life Perfect Food and Daily Multi Supplement for Women, taking flax seed oil by the tablespoons, and drinking more water. Little did I know, the Perfect Food is FILLED with iodine and the daily multi supplement, too. I got real sick with symptoms of hyperthyroidism and liver dyfunctions.
I gave the supplements to my acupuncturist who was also taking a different brand of green powder. He took a look at the Perfect Food (the green powder) without reading the label and smelled it. Immediately, he said that I can't take it because it contains too much iodine for me. He took one recommended dozage, and told me that he can taste and feel that this green powder contains a large amount of iodine. I don't believe he is taking it anymore after trying it once. This explains why my hyperthyroidism returned after being in remission for over a year.
Although I do recommend this book to everyone to read, but if you are going to change your diet, you need to keep in mind that your body is different than everyone you know and don't know. I recommend paying attention to your body and getting to know your body and food. As Dr. Young suggested, consult your doctor - someone who believes in healing through what you eat. Many doctors don't appear to believe in curing illnesses through food and herbal supplements. This is why I consulted my acupuncturist [...].It is always best to get the nutrition you need from eating fresh organic food rather than taking any type of supplements.
I am really glad that I read this book, and I am doing research to tailor a diet that will work best for me. I believe we all need to find a diet that works best for us as individuals. Good luck.
This book and recommended supplements worked great for someone who I encountered and his brother. He was the one who recommended the book and the supplements to me. After getting on this diet, his brother was healed from an illness that no doctor could diagnose, and he was healed from his inability to breathe through his nose due to allergy. Unfortunately, I got the negative reaction. I hope sharing my experience will prevent others from experiencing what I have and am. Good Luck.
Smells Like Junk ScienceThe authors write a very convincing book, and make numerous recommendations that sound right (like a move to a plant-based diet), but a few things concern me. First, one would assume that all of the research is primary because of the lack of sources cited. However, throughout the book, "sources" are deferred to, but simply refer to them as an expert or authority. What also concerns me is that the book is written around a single concept: eliminating the excess acid in the body. One is lead to believe that this excess of acid is the reason for all man's ills, and if the plan is followed, disease (for the most part) will be eradicated. I am weary of any single concept or magic pill (as it were) that can heal the world. Finally, I got the impression that the book was written to sell the supplements recommended. Again, I commend the authors for supporting the benefits of a plant-based diet and for providing some very tasty recipes, but I cannot recommend this book to someone truly wanting to make comprehensive changes to their diet. Without the scientific documentation, the book just smells like junk science.
Acid WasteI really don't like writing negative reviews, but this book is just crying out for one! I'm a nutritionist, and have seen a lot of fad diets and health claims come and go. I believe that the principle of acid-alkaline balance through diet is vitally important. However, this book does it a disservice.
First, the author strongly denounces the humble potato, which is probably the cheapest, most easily obtainable alkalizing food in the world (and is highly recommended by other authors on the subject).
Next, Mr. Young advises, as one of his primary recommendations, that we add hydrogen peroxide drops to our drinking water, in order to alkalize it. Well, I tested my H2O2 with ph test strips, and it is extremely acid (5.0 on the ph scale). Am I missing something??
The problem with so many of these health and self-help books is that the authors happen upon some program or system that works for them, and then they promote it to the world as a cure-all. Unfortunately, what works for them doesn't always work for the rest of us.
Following this book's recommendations, and buying the author's products, may help some people, but I believe they will be in the minority. If you are interested in this subject, I recommend The Acid-Alkaline Diet by Christopher Vasey, which is much more scientifically sound (and he doesn't try to sell you anything, either).
This book can change your lifeOne of the reviewers here questioned the "junk" science invoked in the book, and questioned the motives of the authors since they market products based on the recommendations in the book.
Baloney. This is anything but a "magic pill", as the reviewer suggests. It is a change in your life, and for the better. It's not easy, especially if you love food like I do, and who doesn't love food?
But we've been sold down the river, as a nation and a people, by the greed of food conglomerates who saturate our foods with garbage: sugar, additives, fillers, clogging and poisoning foods. All so they can increase their profits.
There's a better way: a way to improve your zest for life, live longer, cure yourselves of maladies, and all you have to do is throw away all the damn drugs and pills and other, true "pseudo-science" stuff being hawked every day in magazines and on tv and in newspapers and on the radio and just READ ONE BOOK: this one!
It will change your life as it's changing mine.
In the face of skeptics and cynics, I can only say my wife and children and I began this program after stumbling on the book in a book store, and I have had incredible results. The kids (two teenagers!) have jumped into this discipline (with the family pulling together it's fun and easy to do)and now take fresh green salads and quinoa and soaked almonds and such, based on Dr. Young's book, to school. They help us make dinner each night. We have terrific family meals together. And we all feel great.
I've been plagued with sugar cravings, candidiasis, constipation, mood swings, depression and other systemic maladies for decades. When I embraced the suggestions in this book, I had the following short term results (this review is written about 6 weeks after I did a colon cleanse with my wife, then, after finding the book two days later in the bookstore, we started to change our diet to conform to the guidelines in Ph Miracle).
* I lost 15 pounds without any exercise at all. (I was about 25 lbs. overweight: not fat, but just soft and getting paunchy; tired looking all the time; low energy too much of the time. I lead an active life as a photographer but was finding it more and more difficult to get going. I also spend a lot of time on computer with digital images and as an author, so it's harder to make myself exercise)
* My bowels have been consistently regular...until I "slip" and have some sweets or eat something that is acidifying instead of alkalizing. Then I bind up again almost immediately.
* My skin rashes on my arms and back are clearing up
* I truly love and relish the food we eat, thanks to the detailed suggestions and terrific recipes in the book. Instead of cereal, eggs and bacon, toast and jam, and orange juice that I used to consider indispensable to a "healthy" breakfast, I'm now eating things like cooked buckwheat groats with fresh avocado, tomato, soaked and chopped almonds, and one of the sesame oil/lemon juice/tahini dressings mentioned in the book, and this meal sustains me well into mid afternoon, with no post-sugar or post-caffeine crash, because I don't take in those physiological pollutants any longer.
I expect to feel a whole lot better in 6 months, but meanwhile, I felt, as I prepare to turn 60 next week, that I was starting the long slide toward incapacity, declining physical health, and death. Now, 6 weeks later, I am feeling like my old, youthful, energetic self again.
You are what you eat. There are so many delicious foods in here that it will amaze you. Plus when you get off the sugar/meat/acid foods, everything, I mean everything, tastes better.
I used to hate cucumbers. Now I eat them like I used to eat apples or oranges. And I don't get a manic rush afterwards.
This is a great book and once you read the author's theses, based on 20 years of research (he's a microbiologist), you'll ask yourself whether it's worth remaining a creature of habit...and watching your health go slowly down the toilet, the way I was watching mine.
Good health!
As a medical professionalI read this book a couple of years ago and I did the program. I returned to my peak health and lost tons of weight.
Changes in my life made it difficult to continue with the raw diet so I stopped following the acid/base balance and soon started to gain weight. I went really out of control actually.
If you fall off, get back up as soon as possible. Waiting so long as I did is a big mistake.
What has changed? I no longer EVER sick. Remember, I am a medical professional myself- I am in contact with lots of sick people suffering from contagious viruses. I do not take the flu vaccine- and never worry about getting sick. My colleagues all suffer. I tell them about what I do, and I get that BLEH! look.
I have done my own research. Intensive. Harvard School of Medicine's Library has copies of the research Dr. Young bases his theory on. I believe a research study completed by Harvard School of Medicine was just released regarding a similar thought. His theory is sound. In fact, I am considering doing a research project at a major hospital in Boston, MA just to move his theory a bit further.
Acid/base balance is working. Chemical free plant food diet is really the way to go. There has been lots of research that says... 'eating broccoli will do this, eating tomatoes will prevent that... ' How about eating all of the above in a healthful combination?
Even today, I read this book; mark it up- question his theory a bit- do some more research. But all in all... the theory IS supported.
I wish the Medical Doctors (MD) will read this- place thier ill patients on this program.
I gave this four stars- because I could barely stomach half the recipes. Maybe it was because I was sugar and carb addicted at the time and was NOT used to such change. That means half I LOVED! I marked each recipe with a score 1-5 on whether I liked it or not (I didn't want to repeat the unfavorable ones). I must say though - I did grow fond of the raw diet and in fact craved the food. Just like I used to crave a candy bar or bread. I started sharing the food with my family- and they suffered the same 'gross' thing I had at first. So, it takes a bit of adjustment on the taste buds. Dr. Young talks about that.
In order for me to continue Raw, I needed to buy additional recipe books to help. This book is great as a start, a strong knowledge base- not as an 'end-all' to a complete and thorough diet. Knowing WHY you're doing something is the best foundation.
I know this book so well- I could practically quote it word for word. I tell EVERYBODY I know about this program. Open-minded are interested. Closed-minded don't care. Tis okay. Someday they will come to me.
Please read this book. Keep it for reference. Scientifically speaking- it's what we Americans need. Please do yourself a favor. Learn what Dr. Young and his wife have experimented with over the last 20 years. Let thier life's work help you.
Good intentions, not for everyoneMy wife bought this book and likes it. We bought an earlier Dr. Young book and really tried to live his extreme vegetarian program for six months. I just got sicker and weaker, bloated and always tired. My wife did really well. What was the difference?
Then we discovered Dr. D'Adamo's book "Eat Right 4 Your Type." I discovered I was a type O, and vegetarian diets weren't right for me, my wife, a type A, could do well on a diet like Dr. Young's. She still follows Dr. Young's diet, modified by Dr. D'Adamo's recommendations, and she's thriving. I'm now lean and energetic--with Dr. D'Adamo. If you're a blood type O, watch out--Dr. Young's diet didn't work for me!
hmmm ...I only want to make a few remarks about this book, to inform those people who are like me, searching for dietary cures to their chronic ailments, that, quite frankly, never seem to go away. This is a vegan diet if there ever was one. Last year I was stuck between this diet, and convinced that I responded so well to my 7 day fast because I changed the acidity of my body, and another diet that had plenty-o-animal protein. I'm still mystified by the whole 'acidity' thing. I'm sure there is something to it, don't get me wrong, but not like this so-called scientist is saying (so called because this 'world renowned researcher' has not published a single article in any health/medical journal on this planet ... ever. Prosecution rests.) But, listen to this one thing, dude: the author claims that ACIDITY is the breeding ground for all types of pathogenic bacteria ... 'bacteria thrive in, you guessed it, acidity ... they love to swim in their own waste ...' OK so, I bought that, but then why does the stomach -- the ULTIMATE barrier against pathogenic bacteria, secrete hydrochloric ACID to destroy same pathogenic bacteria. Another book, called alkalize or die by baroody, heavily lauds the benefits of HCL and claims that it is paradoxically the great alkalizer in the body because it stimulates alkaline secretions from the pancreas and liver. ph miracle author also claims that algae such as chlorella, so popular as a supplement, are not recommended because they thrive in acid conditions. This is categorically untrue. Chlorella and other blue-green algae thrive in highly alkaline conditions! OK, lastly, the author claims that even though acidity is the root of ALL illness, 'a mildly acidic environment is what your looking for in the gut' Say what? How do you reconcile these two assertions?
Probiotic bacteria THRIVE in acid conditions. These are the life-saving, life-giving bacteria so essential to digestive and overall health. It's this ACID condition that destroys yeast in the gut, especially the colon. I believe that an acid colon is key to health and longevity, and this is achieved by fostering the development of lactic acid probiotic bacteria in the colon, which create the acidic environment that precludes the development of pathogenic bacteria such as yeast. So, I guess it's: if you want to alkalize the body, acidify the colon!! And make sure your secreting enough HCL in the stomach!
The Answer to Many Prayers and Years of My Own Research! At last my searching, praying and studying have brought me to the definitive program for reclaiming my health! And for all you naysayers out there-if you really read & studied the book and did your own research, you'd be singing a different tune as well!Dr. Young does not claim the glory for this new biology, in fact, he credits the great European scientist Antoine Bechamp (1816-1908) along w/others for the original research and theory! One also needs to take into account that a book of this revolutionary magnitude is meant for the masses and not so much the scientic community. Dr. Young has written other books for that purpose. One also should consider that the publisher also dictates certain restrictions & guidelines i.e., length, content, etc. that the author is bound by often making it difficult to encompass everything he intended. Citing studies, research & evidence in detail in this book for the masses would not serve his purpose anyway (to reach as many people as possible who are sick and tired of being sick and tired!) You want research? You want scientic evidence & studies? Read Dr. Young's first book: "Sick and Tired"! As for the supplements, I have read the book several times & remember no mention of any specific brand names-so much for the 'greed' theory. For the rest of the grumblers and skeptics out there, I can only say, "NEXT"! As for me, I'm a 'try it and see for myself' person. Yes, I appreciate reviewing what others have to say to get a 'feel' for whether or not I want to invest my time & money in a book/program, but it rang true to my own inner light when a friend shared it with me and that's something I can trust! As for the program, I can only say WOW! The weight is melting off, the blood sugar is normal again, the blood pressure is way down and that's just for starters. Yes, it's difficult at first (I wonder how 'difficult' chemotherapy, radiation and daily insulin injections can be?), but I know I'm worth it & I want my health back more than I want a juicy steack or a glass of wine! This is not a diet, it's a life-changing experience. I predict this way of life will scare the heck out of the drug companies, insurance companies, MD's/surgeons, diet/exercise industry not to mention the beef & dairy conglomerates & frankly, I can't wait! My eternal gratitude to you Dr. Young for caring and to your wonderful wife Shelley for the fabulous recipes and dedication to helping families all over the world wean their children from dietary poisons to healthier choices.
Taking control of your bodyWhat an awesome book! If you are seroiusly looking to be healthy and to start learning about your body and what is going on inside the body than you need to read this book.I learned all about my bodies ph and why so many people today are sick, overweight, tired and stressed! Our bodies are so full of acid that are bodies cannot funtion properly, and without proper funtion we end up getting all these ishy things happening to our bodies! I think Doctor Young is absoluteyly amazing and what he discovered and how he is going to change so many peoples lives! If people today would open up their minds to the "natural" way, we wouldn't have a ratio of 1:3 for cancer or 50% of children would be healthy and not overweight, parents would start realizing all the pop, koolaid, cookies, chips, sugar and candy is only hurting the childs body with the number one disease in children Diabetes! Thankyou, Doctor Young for what you have discovered and used to help change the world!
TrailBlazing ScienceThere may be no area of health more controversial, more confusing, with more divergent prescriptions, or more fraught with failure than that of weight loss. There is probably no important physical challenge or affliction that affects more Americans--children and adults alike--than being overweight.
Thus, it is amazing to me that some obviously literate contributors have somehow misunderstood the basic and foundational principles of Dr. Robert O. Young's trailblazing science set forth in The pH Miracle. And if they don't understand the concepts set forth there, they won't understand The pH Miracle for Weight Loss any better.
What is so fascinating about the groundbreaking health and nutritional information set forth by Dr. Young is that one could take the "pH Weight Loss" volume and insert any other disorder--arthritis, heart disease, cancer, diabetes--you name it--in place of "weight loss." The pH Miracle for Weight Loss is so fundamental and so radical that it literally sets forth what Dr. Young refers to as "New Biology" and a new foundation for understanding the health and well-being of the entire human race.
Thus, reading some of the lame-brain criticisms found here and there under Dr. Robert and Shelley Young's books is very disturbing. You can tell from the confused and biased comments of these pseudo-medical savants that they do not even recognize the powerful seminal discovery represented by that which they so carelessly denigrate.
Based on the a few obtuse, mean-minded and devious comments seen on the Internet, it is obvious that some of Dr. Young's critics have not done their homework, are completely disingenuous, are perhaps threatened in some way--or may very well "have another dog in the fight."
It is equally amazing that any critic who takes themselves seriously would deny even the possibility that fat cells are one of nature's many attempted protective mechanisms for coping with acid foods and lifestyle--just as are most tumors, polyps, inflammations, acne, boils, swelling and so on. Despite their hyperbole, certain critics are obviously unaware that overweight people willing to follow the alkaline regime universally lose weight. And they usually lose a great deal of weight.
In addition to weight loss, it is both fascinating and instructive to see how the body returns to an earlier healthier and more harmonic state when one actually feeds it properly and gives it what nature intended. Dr. Young's theory makes incredible sense: Fat cells are one of the body's attempts to isolate excessive and destructive acids from the blood, tissues, organs and other important cells of the body. Dr. Young's microscopy work with 10,000 blood samples coupled with nutritional regimens and follow-up blood analyses verify these phenomena in case after case.
Understanding blood is one of the many areas in which Dr. Young excels. When your doctor orders a blood test on you, for instance, the lab tests are not done by identifying the etiology, cause, or relevance of a myriad of unhealthy blood cells. Labs don't pay much attention to the number and nature of unhealthy cells--the cells that tell you the most serious information about the overall health of the body. They miss the big picture. Labs simply count cells and report numerical values for sugar levels, liver and heart enzymes, kidney by-products and factors for blood coagulation. They are looking for numbers. It's a quantity concept, not a quality analysis. The lab does generally look at the type and shape of red blood cells and sometimes comments on them in their reports. But they are not understanding the real meaning of what they are viewing, and the information that is sent back to the doctors does not give them much information to help treat you. Rarely, if ever, does your doctor see your blood under the microscope, nor would he or she be trained to understand the most important component in your body--your blood.
And yet, looking at healthy blood under a microscope is nothing less than a thing of beauty--a dazzling ballet of beauty and symmetry dancing and swirling under the light of the microscope. Nonetheless, few doctors have ever seen such a picture. In fact, looking at their lab partner's blood cells in hematology 101--given the eating habits of most med students--must have been nothing short of a nightmare--despite the fact that the slides all looked sickeningly similar. The novice med prodigy had no way to recognize the acidic blood bombardment for what it was. It takes only a few minutes for one's cheeseburger and greasy onion rings to create the incipient pathology of the body--starkly highlighted in the blood--whether or not it was recognized as the early beginning of the early end.
Dr. Young's research focuses on the nature of the pathological cells. He can tell in the blood where the acids of the body have begun to accumulate and where the body is breaking down--long before you have symptoms. Dr. Young exposes the key vulnerability in human pathology--the acid level in the small intestine. It is in this area of the body that Dr. Young's theories are perhaps the least understood. It is in this area of the body that his dietary regimen has the most immediate impact, and why people feel so better so quickly when Dr. Young begins educating them about how the body REALLY works--and what to eat and not to eat to achieve certain results.
Most diets tell you WHAT to eat. And some are on the right track--although many, like Atkins acid diet, are extremely acidic and unhealthy. But even those dieticians on the right track do not understand the inner working of the blood and intestines and do not know the real reason they are correct. Vegetables aren't healthy because they are vegetables--or even just because they have vitamins, minerals, etc. Vegetables are especially healthy because of their high alkaline content. Consequently, many diets prescribe correct foods but the reasoning and underlying rationale is off target. This is one of the reasons that people lose weight and constantly regain it--because they did not understand the underlying principles--the common denominators of all health, disease, and most dis-ease. Once the bulls-eye is identified, you will keep your weight off as long as you wish. You can eat all you feel like eating, but you have to know what to eat and why--and how to prepare certain vegetable foods so they are scrumptious.
Some critics appear to misunderstand and criticize the intelligent, career-long, case-study type of research of Dr. Robert and Shelley Young. True, the pharmaceutical industry has not seen fit to study their health and nutritional program. And no wonder! The inexpensive alkaline diet will one day cut deeply into Big Pharma's lucrative and poisonous prescriptive "medicines" supposedly aimed at society's health problems. Pharmaceutical executives have known that for several decades. This is part of the reason that large pharmaceutical companies are attempting to buy out herbal and nutritional companies, suppress positive nutritional research, highlight negative herbal research, and exhort the FDA into new administrative laws that attempt to tie the hands of many professional alternative medicine practitioners--and put them out of business.
Yet, overwhelming evidence exists that (probably all) prescription medications are acidic, including all those dietary pills. Despite some apparent short-terms gains, prescriptive acids, masquerading as medicine, are poisonous chemical compounds and sooner or later, in one way or another, add to the body's problems.
When you are tempted to think that all those non-stop drug ads you see on TV are actually helping you, keep in mind the following: It is possible to win a battle once in awhile and still lose the war. It is possible to lose weight, for instance, with some prescription drugs and unhealthy diets, but still be incurring various side-effects and multiple areas of damage to other parts of the body. It is possible to suppress certain symptoms even though the acidic drug(s) used are sewing the seeds for later health problems. Meanwhile, the real cause of illness and disease is not addressed.
Yet, despite the fact that Big Pharma is unwilling--and will forever be unwilling--to fund a medical school research laboratory to properly test Dr. Young's decades of work, pharmaceutical and allopathic proponents nonetheless blame Dr. Young for his inability to have amassed the resources to orchestrate randomized, large scale, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. Big Pharma may be greedy, but they are not stupid. What Dr. Young and others are learning about how the body is designed and how it functions will sometime in the near future rob pharmaceutical companies from the fruits of their main obsession--profits.
Despite those few loud detractors, Dr. Robert Young's N-of-1 research is very useful and is well respected in many scientific circles. It is especially useful in the behavioral sciences wherein professional helping agents assist individuals in tracking their own self-administered and self-controlled behavior modification studies. N-of-1, studies can be used whenever the independent variable (treatment) is easily managed and the dependent variable (outcome) is readily observed. This is certainly the case in most weight-loss situations.
What could be more empirical or scientific than tracking and recording your own food for several months and matching it up with the pH level of your urine and saliva 5 or 10 times a day? With this method, one can see the evidence whenever and wherever one wants. Just eat "right" for a few days and then eat "wrong" for a few days while tracking body weight and the pH of body fluids. Do that off and on. Such studies are referred to as "A-B-A-B" trials and consist of carefully repeated measures of baseline-treatment-baseline-treatment observations. Any adult can easily keep track of his/her pH results with pH strips. The bathroom scales will tell you the rest. Thus, in the privacy of your home, you can do your own N-of-1 or single-participant research. You will see how very quickly your body is telling you what is going on inside of you. If you think a tummy ache or morning hangover is the body's main feedback that you have overdone something or are eating wrong, wait until you see what your blood, saliva and urine are telling you.
And as a result of some of those few tasteless, personal attacks on The pH Miracle for Weight Loss and some of Dr. Young's other best-selling books, I have several other beefs to pick with those few misguided Young critics and their near-sighted and out-of-context examples, and I will address them one by one.
First, Dr. Young is not the only scientist under attack by powerful interests. I suspect that some of the personal character attacks I see on the Internet are pharmaceutical industry "insiders." These may consist of employees, paid consultants, or some other aligned confederates generally deployed to create world-wide disinformation in the public mind and protect Big Pharma profits and shore up their flagging reputation. Consider this: If all those toxic drugs were so desperately needed and valuable to the public, why, according to TNS research and the Wall Street Journal, would the pharmaceutical industry spend $100 billion on advertising in 2005, far more than was spent on their own research and development? And guess who pays for all that advertising!
Secondly, despite 5 degrees in science and 3 doctorates, Dr. Young is criticized for his training and extraordinarily brilliant education. Dr. Young decidedly avoided typical M.D.-type medical training. Early in his career he believed that the germ theory was wrong and was not willing to undergo continuous medical indoctrination of information based on faulty theoretical underpinnings. Dr. Young received his education from complementary and alternative graduate science programs. These programs routinely question and disagree with the shoddy science coming from many medical schools which are largely controlled by the FDA and its pharmaceutical "partners," the same cronies who trade management and executive jobs back and forth like youngsters trade baseball cards.
It is common knowledge that it is impossible to receive accreditation from many sanctioning bodies when turf, money, greed and power speak so loudly. Some of the greatest medical scientific work in history has barely seen the light of day. (see Dr. Royal Rife, Dr. Antoine Bechamp, etc.) Those who attack Dr. Young's training are heavily invested in a competitive, self-seeking, self-serving and monopolistic approach to the health and wellness industry. This approach is designed to disparage successful alternative treatment programs and efforts. If you are not familiar with this issue, ask yourself when the last time was that you heard of a person dying from a nutritional supplement or an alternative medical treatment program? The answer is "rarely" or "never." Then ask yourself how many people have died from "FDA tested and approved" medicine? The answer is 125,000 people died in one recent year according to The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Third, is it true that Dr. Young, despite having published eight books and two decades of research including journal articles, has never published articles in major peer-reviewed scientific journals controlled by the AMA? Yes, it is absolutely true. Why? Because without the over-hyped M.D. degree, with the pharmaceutical throttle-neck grip on the entire medical industry, and with the financially dependent hospital researchers and educators competing for Big Pharma drug-research funds, who is going to publish an article by Dr. Young that challenges the very basis of all western allopathic pharmaceutical medicine? Dr. Young has been among the small but brilliant cadre of scholars over the last century who have been relegated to the shadows of the medical spotlight for totally disagreeing with Louis Pasteur's germ theory set forth nearly two centuries ago. It is quite obvious that "no one" will touch Dr. Young's anti-pharmaceutical research with a ten foot pole. Such boldness could easily result in professional ostracism and financial suicide.
Yet, Dr. Young has quiet, private, conversations with many prominent allopathic medical leaders across the country who support and encourage his work and praise his findings--but cannot or will not stand up in the face of a trillion dollar industry--and the loss of their own personal and professional standing.
Fourth, Dr. Young, too busy with research and education, did turn over some of his marketing efforts to a MLM company many years ago. Later, disappointed by the lack of professionalism, public education, research, and excessive focus on sales and marketing, Dr. Young admitted his mistake and took all possible legal and ethical steps to disassociate himself from his mistaken business decisions.
Fifth, Dr. Young, in lieu of standard large-scale research which the powerful medical monopoly will not undertake, has published hundreds of case studies and reports of miraculous and often instant success once his nutritional regimen is understood and followed. Not only are most of his individual successes NOT anonymous, but many are quite well-known professionals with worldwide reputations who have publicly attested to the power and efficacy of Dr. Young's science and have praised the nutritionally excellent dietary recipes published by his wife and co-author.
Lastly, like a thousand other professional complementary and alternative practitioners, and because Dr. Young is a threat to the largest industry in America--the medical-pharmaceutical complex--Dr. Young has found himself the target of pursuit and legal entrapment by authorities who themselves are pressured to enforce and hop-scotch through a maze of restrictive and onerous laws which have been enacted over the past 50 years as a result of political pressure and the lobby of powerful economic interests. Despite his three doctoral degrees, charges have twice been brought against Dr. Young for practicing medicine. Dr. Young has prevailed in both instances. No court record exists, and the only mention of these false charges are a few incomplete and out-of-context newspaper accounts. Like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and all fight courageously for the rights of their fellow men, I believe that Dr. Young is proud to stand up to the morally bankrupt charges of those in power who seek to bring him down.
Young's work represents the personification of disruptive technology, and he is a threat to the status quo and the egos of the powerful. Most trailblazers in the history of the world have had to withstand the slings and arrows of those whose economic interests, personal office, or perception of the world has been threatened.
For me personally, after age 60, with an attack of what could have been anything from stomach cancer to severe gastritis, within a week, while only beginning to implement the Young regimen, I rid myself of severe stomach pain that had been keeping me from sleeping. Actually, my stomach was so swollen and sensitive that I couldn't even get comfortable in bed. Additionally, in two or three weeks I no longer had to take the glucosamine and chondroitin arthritis medicine I had taken for 8 years. I began losing weight immediately and as of today I'm down about 50 pounds. It also seems that my memory has been improving and I will have to monitor that possible side benefit more carefully. Obviously, however, a rising tide lifts all boats, and theoretically every cell in my body has probably improved. My sleep requirements dropped from 8 or 9 hours to 7 hours or less. I no longer need naps. I'm able to run again and play full-court basketball.
How could this happen so suddenly? Why is the brilliant Young family weight loss program and other health regimens not yet well known? Allow me a few additional thoughts:
The truth is that some of the problem lies with everyday people like you and me. Not many people in America are willing to do the serious investigation--to take the time that is needed--to read widely and critically and search out that which is required--to take more seriously their responsibility to themselves and their families.
It is still a minority of Americans who are willing to admit that we have been bamboozled by the food industry, by the allopathic medical/pharmaceutical industry, and by the Congress of the United States that, sadly, every day, takes egregious sums of money from all three.
CBS's 60 Minutes recently showed the fraud and deceit perpetrated on the American public by the pharmaceutical industry and shameless elected representatives.
The reason that I began experiencing a relief of symptoms so quickly is because Dr. Robert O. Young, great, great grand-son of Brigham Young, is onto something powerful that challenges and exposes traditional medicine. Dr. Robert and Shelley Young have already begun to change the food industry forever. Their work will send us back to the drawing board and the family vegetable garden.
The reason my life changed forever is because I now know what to eat, the balance between various fruits and vegetables, and which supplements may be needed and when and why. I now know if a carrot is more alkaline than stalk of celery. I know if a piece of organic whole wheat bread is more acidic than a piece of organic rye. I now know which foods I should avoid entirely--no matter what.
Dr. Young has provided proof of what he says, and he gives you the simple tools to prove it to yourself. The proof comes as often as you want it. Drink a coca-cola with your fries and burger and watch what happens to your pH. When your urine pH drops to 6 or 5 or lower, how in the world can your blood maintain 7.365?
When your body is overwhelmed by an acidic diet wherein various pH measurements do not begin to approach a pH of 5 or 6, what does your body do with all that acid? The answer is simple. The body turns itself inside out and upside down trying to cope with a diet of food that the human body was never designed to handle. Wherever your body finds a weak link--probably hereditary--and tries to hide or bury that acid, that's where you eventually get sick.
Obesity is a good example. If the average American is ONLY 20 pounds overweight, that comes out to 6 BILLION pounds of fat in America. What is fat? Fat is acid. Fat cells are one of the body's desperate mechanisms to handle acid so that organ systems do not become overwhelmed by all the acid food and drink that we consume.
If you read the Scriptures of all the major religions of the world--Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity--they all talk about eating correctly and the importance of living from the fruit of the earth. All Sacred Scripture from major world religions speak the same language about love, peace, truth, right conduct and non-violence.
Scripture does not talk about stuffing helpless, crowded animals with cheap food and hormones and then coloring and radiating the meat so it can sit in the meat case for several extra days. They do not recommend drinking milk from cows after the animal and the product have been devastated by 75 different toxins in the dairy chain.
If you REALLY want to understand the BEAUTY of Dr. Young, the scientist, then you have to dive into his work. You will not find many pearls in the shallows. So dive deep into 30 years of science and read his seminal works such as Sick & Tired, Reclaim Your Inner Terrain. By microscopically studying the blood of over 10,000 people, Dr. Young has documented instant feedback from pictures of healthy and unhealthy blood cells. It is this information that allows him to apply "New Biology" and begin to educate the world and to point the way to a revised understanding of the health and dietary requirements of our bodies.
Unfortunately, it is true that Dr. Young and his brave and talented wife, Shelley, have taken flak from a number of clever pundits and buffoons. Having failed to have performed conscientious homework, these narrowly educated exhibitionists have very little grasp of that which they write. Yet, the fight will be long and hard, because for every brilliant, visionary like Dr. Young searching for truth, they will always find themselves 'fighting at the crossroads against the 10,000 men who guard the past.'
Buyer BewareWhen I bought this book I thought it was going to give recommendations for a balanced diet that is good for your Ph levels. What I got was an all-out assault on meat, dairy, and fruit. Here is a very brief review of this book for anyone who doesn't have the time to fill their head full of garbage. Your diet should basically be nothing but vegatables, grasses, and a small amount of grains. If you eat meat, fruit, or dairy your body will become very acidic and little microorganisms will grow in your body and slowly eat you from the inside out. You shouldn't eat more than 25 grams of protein and you don't need to worry about calcium intake because only meat-eaters need extra calcium.
This diet is only for strict vegetarians and hypochondriacs who are afraid of being eaten alive by invisible fungi if they eat meat, fruit or dairy. This diet will make you loose weight because you're eating less than 1000 calories a day. It will make you lose muscle mass from lack of protein and you will get the cool side effect of having green poop from all of the chlorophil.
The purpose of this book is to scare you into buying the author's supplements while taking advatage of the Ph theory and capitalizing on people's fears. Don't be a sucker and fall for an idiotic diet that is one of the hardest diets to follow, very unbalanced, and could potentially be dangerous to your health.
A medical breakthrough? Not exactly! The book claims to offer a "New Biology". It doesn't! What the authors have done is simply to present an old and extremely valuable principle of nutrition. The basis of the diet is that 80% of food eaten should have an alkaline effect in the body and the remaining 20% should have an acidic effect. This 80/20 ratio provides a healthy balance for almost everyone and was repeatedly advocated by Edgar Cayce and others nearly a hundred years ago.
The enthusiastic reviews that appear here are testimony to that principle. Insofar as the book brings it to public notice it provides a useful service. Because the basic principle is valuable it is tempting to assume the rest of the advice offered by the book is also. Unfortunately, it isn't. The book makes various claims which cannot be validated and which lead to a diet which is vegan with all fruit removed. This not only makes it extremely difficult to adhere to but denies what are known to be effective ways of removing toxicity from the body. Those who have lost weight on the diet is almost certainly for no other reason than it has the tendency to be low in calories.
The main criticism of the book is it's fundamental argument that health problems are caused by the body being over acidic. It goes so far as to suggest a 100% alkaline reacting diet and also advises artificially alkalising the body by taking hydrogen peroxide. The authors are on dangerous ground. Although acidity is a problem for many people, there are also conditions associated with alkalinity. These can be serious and difficult to cure. The quickest way of making such conditions worse would be to follow this advice.
DANGER!!! BEWARE!!!This book nearly killed me!!!!!! I strongly suggest that anyone who is thinking of trying this diet first consult with their doctor. I did not, and I lost too much weight, became tired, disoriented, anxious, and was unable to go to work (or pretty much anywhere else) for over two months. I had several trips to the emergency room, completely lost my appetite, and am now struggling to gain some of the weight back. This diet completely disrupted the balance in my body, my brain, not to mention my life, and it is definitely not for everyone. I'm not exactly sure who it is for, but before you jump on the Ph bandwagon, consult with someone who REALLY understands nutrition.
Please read this book if you have weight trouble or disease! The work of Dr. Young is amazing. There are a number of testimonials in this book and for every testimonial in the book there are many not mentioned. Please, If you do anything just read with an open mind and try to see if you can make improvements based on the book.
Here is my own personal testimonial:
My cholesterol has never been measured below 199. From 1996 to 2000 my cholesterol has always hovered between 211-216. Since following Dr. Young's program (Diet and Super Greens) my cholesterol dropped 60 points in 2 months. My cholesterol is now at 147. After 6 months on the program I lost 40 pounds.
There will be many people arguing the merits of this book but the testimonials are never disputed. The forward in the book is from Jane Clayson from CBS. She even drinks the Super Greens Dr Young promotes.
After I did made changes in my diet and supplementation the better I felt and the more I read about other issues. I had a strong sense that this was the best decision possible. Here is a sample of the issues I am referring to:
Mad Cow disease
Hoof and mouth disease
Bovine growth hormone
Government loosening regulations on beef
Animal cruelty
Environmental impacts from dairy and meat industries
Following Dr. Young's program I felt I made the best choice for my health and I have not regretted it one bit.
Again, If you do anything just read with an open mind and try to see if you can make improvements based on the book....
Review of the book, "The PH Miracle..."In terms of a diet book, this is probably the best book I have ever read. I have been on this program for 10 weeks, have lost 42 pounds, have more energy than I thought possible and feel just great. It is easy to stay on the diet although, at this point, I consider it more of a lifestyle. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to become healthy and at the same time loose tremendous excess weight.
Where did he go to school????See my review under "Sick and Tired" by same author. I was unable to find out where this guy went to school. I would not suggest putting your trust in this man's theories. If you're interested in the alkaline/acid theory, try another author like Dr. Andrew Weil (Harvard Medical School) and Dr. Susan Lark, a reknowned gynecologist. Both have vast medical knowledge, experience, and a wholistic approach.
I DID lower my cholesterol without chaning my dietUpdate 3/07: still eating green as much as possible. Love spinach, avacado and frozen broccoli smoothies (really, I do). However, it looks like the greens that Dr. Young sponsored are still around but he isn't. So, I recommend going with some other greens (just read labels). I like Paleo Mint through a health care provider and you can find some at Whole Foods and mercola.com as well.......get some with fruits in it as well and you can kill 2 birds, less the sugar and carbos of eating alot of fruit. Garden of Life seems decent (but expensive). Shop around.
Original review: I read this book at advice of a friend. I sort of bought into it but thought it was a bit extreme. I had been really tired and just lost 2 babies so I was up for feeling better. My friend told me to do nothing buy try the SuperGreens listed in the book along with the PH drops. So I did. My energy went up immediately. I kept my diet the same (wine, beef, chicken, you name it). I started feeling better but just thought my depression had lifted. Well, 4 months later, I went to my MD. I had a BMI test done that also includes cellular health. I had my blood lipids run. When I got the results back, I was ASTOUNDED and so were my doctors. My total cholesterol dropped 57 points (I am only 39, in fairly good shape, size 8 and have NEVER had a cholesterol level below 210). The check I did in august 04 was 233 total cholesterol. The test last month: 176. All I did differently was drink supergreens 2 times per day with PH drops. All of my lipids lowered including my C-Reactive Protein. My cell health went WAY up, my BMI went down, i lost 16.8 pounds of fat without losing any muscle. I will share my reports with you and my doctors comments if you like. I got so excited, i signed up to distribute the product so i could get the discount. I have 22 of my friends and family on supergreens. My mom says her energy is great (she is 72 and obese). Contact me if you want details of my story and on the SuperGreens. Read the book if you like or contact me for some highlights first. I don't know if this is the answer to everything, but it is the answer to alot of things. I was so skeptical before but not anymore. This has made me WANT to start cleaning up my diet in addition to supergreens and I am well on the way. Take baby steps and start with their supergreens. contact me for a free sample.
Healthy Skepticism Is WarrantedThe book is "dumbed down" for the masses, and as such the case histories read a bit naively and the science is poorly presented; you are asked to trust the authors essentially. OK, they seem like nice enough (and competent) folks. But the book is written to sell product through MLM distributors who in my experience use some questionable methods of motivating people. One kept telling me her broken back healed in 2 weeks because she took the products. And while health claims were not made, I was told the blood of a cancer patient was healing from the patterns observed; that patient's tumor markers are 5 times worse today despite alkalizing. Not to blame alkalizing, but the miracle didn't happen in this instance. The MLMers are also true believers because the science is not well documented when they present it either. I tried to sell the products I bought, but the prices were too high for online sales, so I switched to alternative products at reasonable prices. The MLMers hold conventions, and the fees for those are passed up the pyramid just like the sales of supplements. I think it's far too early to tell if alkalizing holds promise as a cure for mankind. It is the cure for greed for many of the MLMers who feed from its trough. But beware the people in the movement are Power People and if you don't defend your turf as well as your wallet and emotions, you too could get caught up with that Pie in the Sky called enthusiasm and hype. Caveat Emptor - Let the Buyer Beware.
Let the pH Miracle set you freeI am familiar with all of the books written by Dr. Robert O. Young. Like Dr. Young, I am a microscopist who understands the intimate connection between alkalinity of the body and all cellular health including tissues, organs and blood.
I thought that The pH Miracle was a bold and brilliant book that over time will help refocus the world of western medical science from the outer world over which we have little control to our own inner phenomenon or inner environment over which we have a great deal of control.
But then, as I was reading the Amazon reviews online, I found this insane review by someone named "Carnamagos" which looked very much like someone with a vendetta. I find it amazing that Mr. Chili Con Carne or anyone would be so naïve and uninformed as to attack Dr. Young in such a manner. But it is even more incongruous to me that some stranger who has undoubtedly never met Dr. Young would criticize him for a shortcoming of scientific integrity or some fantasized lack of personal character. This Carnamagos person obviously does not know anything of the brilliant career of Dr. Robert O. Young.
So I did a little research. It turns out that Mr. Chili Con Carne is somebody who doesn't want to be identified. No wonder. Based on the level of aggression and intended harm in the review, I assume that Carnamagos is a "he" and this hit-man has shamed himself by attacking a person whom he could not possibly know.
As it turns out, the pen name of "Carnamagos" has something to do with evil. Mr. Chili Con Carnamagos is apparently a person who identifies with the dark side of life. This is a person who attacks people from the shadows.
I also note that the bold review posted by the psychologist from Missouri also "took to task" and answered some of the senseless comments by Chili Con Carnamagos. I found myself in agreement with his review entitled "Trailblazing Science" and I thought it was right on the button.
I have met Dr. Young many times in professional settings. I have been present when anonymous people have appeared from nowhere and shook is hand and thanked him for saving their life or the life of a loved one. Dr. Young is known by virtually all who have spent time with him as a wonderful, generous, kind, self-sacrificing doctor, clinician, scientist, church member, husband and father.
Since this anonymous, fictitious person who calls himself "Carnamagos" has found time to dig up and misconstrue various mean-minded, incorrect, out-of-context or simply alleged "FACTS" about Dr. Young, I will add a few other irrefutable, REAL facts that are far more interesting, I believe, to a nation of people concerned with the health and well-being of its citizens.
FACT: Neil Solomon, M.D, Ph.D., Director, International Council for Caring Communities' Health, Advisory Board, Non-Governmental Organizations, United Nations and former Head of Research at Johns Hopkin School of Medicine, said this about Dr. Young and his work:
"Dr. Young may be on the threshold of a new biology whose principals could revolutionize biology and medicine and potentially help people worldwide."
After studying Dr. Young's work, Dr. Solomon invited him to serve on the council.
FACT: Janet Konefal, Ph.D., M.P.H., L.Ac., Chief, Division of Complementary and Integrative Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of Miami School of Medicine, had this to say about Dr. Young and his science:

FACT: Tony Robbins, a giant within the personal and professional improvement industry, a business leader of unparalleled success in his field, Author of "Unlimited Power" and "Awaken the Giant Within" has this to say of Dr. Robert Young:
"In the 22 years I have spent in the personal and professional improvement industry, I have never endorsed a particular person or product, but I must say that Dr. Young is a genius in this area...Over the last two years there is not a single man, woman, or child I have sent to Dr. Young who does not feel he has profoundly impacted the quality of their health...In the case of the young boy, (sent to me by Make A Wish Foundation) his bones were so brittle that he would break a rib if he were to cough, but after six months he was lifting weights, exercising, and his prognosis is no longer death."
FACT: Frederick Burton, M.D., the Burton Wellness and Injury Center, had this to say about Dr. Young and his work on diabetes,
"A miracle for people who suffer from this horrible disease . . . This by far is the most important book ever written on the subject of diabetes mellitus."

"It is my belief that Dr. Young's theory, his therapeutic methodology, and his commitment to health care will continue to make history in years to come."
FACT: Dr. Young has helped to improve the quality and quantity of life for hundreds of thousands of people worldwide in over 72 countries.
FACT: Anthony Espinet, M.Dl., F.R.C.A.,C.C.S.T., Consultant Anesthesiologist and Intensivist, Clinical Lecturer, University of Newcastle, England wrote of one of Dr. Young's books:
"The principles so simply stated have been gathered from a vast arena of knowledge and experience, addressing the problem of personal health and disease. The book provides a profound depth of scientific information, being conveyed in an easily readable style that is written for the general public as well as the health professional."
FACT: Professor Lawrence Edward (Dean) Carter Sr., Ph.D., D.D., D.H., D.R.S., D.H.C of Morehouse College, protégé and successor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, and instructor at the Morehouse School of Medicine, had this to say about the Dr. Robert and Shelley Young:
"Dr. Robert O. Young and His wife, Shelley Redford Young, have established themselves as the preeminent scientific researchers on balancing body chemistry and achieving the ideal, healthy weight. Every African-American and African-Caribbean or any person suffering from Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, obesity, overweight, underweight, hypertension, cancer, AIDS, or heart disease, or any person who may have been reared on "soul food," must discover The pH Miracle, The pH Miracle for Diabetes and their latest book The pH Miracle for Weight Loss and the rejuvenating recipes in order to alkalize and energize an over-acidified diet.
FACT: Dr. Young has never been convicted of practicing medicine without a license or attempted practice of medicine without a license.
Fact: Dr. Young has been a member in good standing of the American Society of Microbiologists for over ten years.
Fact: Dr. Young is an honary member of the Connecticut Holistic Health Association.
Fact: Dr. Young is a lifetime member of the Presidents Council at Brigham Young University.
Fact: Dr. Young is a member of the advisor board to Dean Lawrence Carter at the Martin Luther King Chapel, Morehouse College. He and his wife, Shelley Redford Young, were inducted into the collegium of scholars at Morehouse College by Professor Carter.
And to our Mr. Caramagos, I include this quote...............
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
Arthur Schopenhauer
Don't be afraid to have an open mind and take a different path to health. If you evaluate the health of the majority of Americans that rely on the current path I think you'll agree that there is room for change and improvement. Following the pH Miracle program will give you vibrant health, sustainable energy, and a new outlook on life. I know this because my family and I have been living it for seven years.
"Dr." Young lacks legitimate credentials.pH balancing diet works and is good science, but this guy is not. This "Dr" Young nutritionist claims that foods have harmonic frequencies measured in MEGAHERTZ, and also claims that RED BLOOD CELLS can transform in to MUSCLE CELLS to build more muscle. Big Mac, for example, he says has about 5 Mhz measurable harmonic frequency. According to him, we need to eat foods that have higher Mhz than a Big Mac. So go eat some Pentium 4 CPU chips; it will put you in GIGAHERTZ. Anyone can see that Big Mac does not vibrate or oscillate, and therefore there can be no MEASURABLE frequency on a Big Mac. Foods are measured in calories for food energy, and not Mhz which measures frequencies. Also, I've never read or found any stem cell research discussing how RED BLOOD CELLS can transform in to SKELETAL MUSCLE CELLS to build more muscles, while there are countless studies showing that heart and skeletal muscle cells do not reproduce or grow back. Where's Dr Young getting this breakthrough information from? He goes on and on with his "scientific" breakthroughs without legitimate reference or credentials. Maybe this guy's been smoking too much of his pH balancing weeds. For anyone with any basic scientific training, this is beyond nonsense. Just ignore this crazy guy if you are interested in reading more on this topic.
Buy this book or borrow it --but READ itThis book is going to change a lot of people's thinking about health and nutrition. The ideas, which Dr. Young has been saying steadily for over almost 20 years in more technical, but largely unnoticed, books and lectures, are not based on any theory but on his own discoveries under the microscope in a Utah research center. They explain so many unrelated things... reversing a lot of the common diet hype out there...and put first-hand molecular science behind the claim that a plant-based diet is essential for optimal human health. Not only that, but that an over-acidified body--caused by too much "diet" food like protein, artificial sweeteners, low-fat starches and fruit (and even excess exercise!)--actually not only CAUSE protective fat layers to form, but also set up an environment that acid-producing yeast, fungi, and mold thrive in. So do all diseases including cancer, arterioscerosis, diabetes, lupis, chronic fatigue--all of them.
Dr. Young challenges even long-held cultural myths like "drink milk for strong bones" by asking where do elephants, gorillas and bears get their calcium? Then he explains in a totally rational way why humans were never meant to drink cows'--or any other species--milk. I could go on, but you won't be sorry you bought this book. Read, learn, and change your life, whether or not you take all the supplements and eat only the foods he recommends. You'll start doing some things differently, and you'll understand why.
I happened to attend one of Dr. Young's talks 10-12 years ago and knew by his quiet passion he was onto something big but it was so radical there was little media support. Now I see the likes of Tony Robbins, James Redfield, and a TV talk show host are endorsing him. The main thing is that these concepts get out there to people who are sick and tired (who isn't?) They will replace a lot of well-marketed but contradictory diet nonsense with a unifying nutrition theory that finally holds water.
A broad based health cookbookI bought this book to read about pH and the miracle. What I got was a book of recipies using ingredients not readily available. Recipies are referenced and not listed in the index, so one must search for them. Perhaps 1/4 of the book is pertinent, the remainder is recipies i.e., healthy snacks eat 'All-Vegetable Cocktail', but in the index there is no 'All-Veg...',ad infinitum.
Maybe this is a good book for a neophyte or novice to healthy eating. I got my pH right and quickly using 'The Calcium Factor', a book half the cost of this one.
Nitrazine paper strips for tests of pH are not even mentioned for self testing, nor sourced. Organizational reference is not a high point of this book.
A qualified successAt a friend's behest, I tried Dr. Young's diet. My primary motivation was weight loss. My friend had lost approximately 25 lbs. in two months. She absolutely swears by the whole theory, the products, etc. I bought some Supergreens and some Prime pH, and stuck fairly religiously to the alkalizing diet for over a month. I am still pretty much on it. Because of social obligations, I have eaten moderate size meals not conforming to the diet about 4-5 times during this period.
I like the diet, actually; I like eating all the fresh vegetables, and I like the salad dressings I have been able to put together from the Youngs' recipes. I do have more energy (though I'm not exactly leaping tall buildings), and some annoying health complaints have lessened. HOWEVER - I have not lost any weight.
Obviously, there is some reason for this. But the claims made in this book and elsewhere in Dr. Young's literature state that you WILL lose weight. The only reason for excess weight, according to Dr. Young, is an acidic environment, and fat is stored acidic impurities; - the way to get rid of the acidic environment is to go on his diet (and use his supplements.) My experience suggests that these claims are not true all the time, as he implies they are.
If I want to lose weight, I will have to try some other means, or some variant of this. If you want to lose weight, it may work for you - if you try it, I hope it does. But be advised that it may not be the weight-loss panacea it touts itself as being.
Get RealYou guys gotta be kidding. No one can tell me that they can use this diet in everyday life. Unless you are a shut in or wealthy with someone buying and preparing these meals...GOOD LUCK! I tried it for one month. First of all, most of these products have to be purchased at health food stores and are very expensive. Second of all, if you have to eat out a lot for business or just for pleasure FORGET IT! I couldn't find one thing on a restaurant menu that remotely filled these stringent guidelines. Third, I don't know about anyone else, but I like some taste with my food...this stuff and the recipes that went along would gag a goat. After a month I lost 5 lbs...got sick three times and could barely make it up a flight of stairs. I told someone about this diet and they said that Anthony Robbins has an interview with the authors on tapes circulating around the country. At the end of the tape they tell you how to contact a distributor to purchase their products. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you really can't follow their program without their products...mmmmmm sounds a bit like MLM. Be careful with this one.
Documentation beats conversation!THIS BOOK IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A HEALTHIER WAY TO LIVE!!
Let's look at the stats on American Healthcare: $1.3B industry, 1 out of 3 people get cancer, 1 out of 2 get heart disease, obesity is at epidmeic levels, 70% of children are getting hardening deposits in their arteries as early as 12 years of age. And here is the best one of all, in 1999 over 120,000 people died from prescription drugs. So what does that tell you about how well we are doing as a society?
Somewhere a long time ago we bought into the fact of eating dead animal flesh, products ladened with sugar and foods with artifical additives galore, not to forget neon fizzy carbonated drinks. So we as a society are suffering the consequences.
Along comes Dr. Young, (not the first to talk this way), but just someone who has devoted his life to bringing this information out to the peoples of the world. His book tells it like it is. Also read his other books "Sick & Tired" and "Back to the House of Health" Co-authored by his wife Shelley. They have figured out something that most people will never fully grasp and understand because of what society is telling us.
We can live and be healthy if only we put the right types of food and nutrition into our system. The PH Miracle spells it out plain and simple. Will it take effort? Absoultely...because you are changing your old belief patterns and they have been cemented into our minds. It takes time, but with education you can gain the necessary leverage to do anything.
My wife and I have followed his program for just about 2 years now and we have never been healthier. I just wish I had known about this earlier so that my father and mother who both died because of health problems could be alive today.
READ THIS BOOK AND OPEN YOUR MIND TO THE FACT THAT MOST OF WHAT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IN SOCIETY IS WRONG! Dr. Young speaks the truth and it will make a lot of people upset with him, but so what, at least you can be healthier.
This book is literally one big MLM scam - please readI feel compelled to write this review, although I don't typically do these things. I picked up this book at my local health food store a couple of days ago because I have a family member that was raving about the idea of a pH diet. I am a huge advocate of alternative medicine, and I can very clearly see that, especially in Western medicine, the general medical model is extremely flawed. However, when I heard the initial premise of the whole diet being around adjusting the bloods pH levels, it made little sense to me (because I've studied a good amount about the oceans pH and how even very minor changes have drastic consequences - it didn't make sense to me that the body, being it's own little eco system, could be completely OK with fluctuating it's pH levels), but I bought it and have now read it.
So after reading it, and although I am not a microbiologist, I can say with a very clear conscious that this book is basically a scam. At the same time, I will say that if you follow the diet outlined in this book, you WILL have incredible improvements in your health, lose weight, etc... The diet listed in here is a vegan diet (I am a vegetarian myself, not strictly vegan), and if you do your own research on WHY vegan diets can essentially do all the same things this book claims, you will lean A LOT about nutrition, cholesterol, and the body's health in general.
Additionally, if you look at all the products "Dr." Young wants you to buy, it should become increasingly clear that he has basically setup his own personal MLM scam that has himself at every level benefiting from naive individuals.
I would encourage you to do your own research, and I am only motivated to write this because I don't like knowing people are being scammed. Dr. Weil, a very well respected alternative medicine practitioner has written several things about blood pH and the notion that water can be alkalized, etc... (in essence he says this is complete non-sense). Do some basic google research before you give Young your money.
Most of all, good look and good health to you!
A misconception about fruitsJust a clarification: The vast majority of fruits are NOT acidifying after digestion. They become so, however, if eaten along with starches, meats or vegetables, and often with other fruits. Eaten entirely by themselves, they shouldn't, in most cases, cause any problem. This is an issue that few nutritionists understand properly.
LISTEN!!! for anyone who read the reviews about Dr. Young's lack of credThis book is full of amazing health advice that, for the most part you already knew (you just didn't know exactly why it was healthy). Yes this diet, if followed word for word is difficult. WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW ANYTHING WORD FOR WORD. Fundamentalist religious people don't even follow their book of choice word for word. Take what works for you and make it work for you. Super hydration, and green supplements are essential for our malnutritioned society. Eat more green vegetables. Eat higher water rich foods. Lower your intake of refined sugars (and fruit juice that averages 50 grams of sugar per serving!). Are these pieces of advice that need credential backing. Listen, If you asked ten ivy-league educated doctors their opinion on any given health issue, you would get ten different answer, maybe more depending on what drug company they are more closely linked to. BE LOGICAL. The majority of this book is irrefutable. The rest, as with any new theory you'll have to exercise faith. Which, by the way is what you're constantly doing with western medicine.
a PH Miracle for lifeI have been following this program for 2 1/2 years. I was dealing with numerous health challenges, some quite serious. I started this, quit drinking coffee, soda, eating meat and have never looked back. My extreme acidreflux was gone in a matter of days. I lost 28 pound in just under 3 months, my rosacea I have suffered with for 5+ years is completely gone. I have strangers tell me how beautiful my skin looks and I no longer have flare ups, I get facials, peels and go in the sun! My liver and digestive system are working again! This program may sound complicated, but it is not. It is the simplicity of it that makes it work. And puts all the responsibility in your hands for your health. I have fired my Doctor!
Excellent book I would recommend everyone buy it and try it for 12 weeks and see your life change before your eyes!
Useful but flawed.I have felt some of the benefits of adopting the Young diet - but I do not believe that these results can be ascribed to the causes postulated by his theory. The theory that alkaline means energy (and that acid means energy deficit) is simplistic and is unsupported by credible evidence. I do not believe in the efficacy of Robert Young's patent medicines. I have found that sodium bicarbonate has equally beneficial 'alkalising' effects - at a fraction of the cost. Fundamentally, Robert Young is advocating nothing more than a routine healthy diet. But he tries to disguise this fact with pseudo-scientific jargon, unsupported assertions, a paucity of real evidence and an array of unnecessarily expensive commercial products of doubtful efficacy. Nevertheless, the type of diet which he recommends may well produce some beneficial effects.
Innovative work on the fruit issue puts Young in the books..Robert Young is sold on the fact that we need to be alkaline in order to be healthy. I'm sold too, as well as any other person who has done any research on how to be healthy.
Young seems to be a big fan of Avocados as a source of "protein" (avocado is about 4% protein). If you've done other research, you know that an Avocado is toxic to a person with Type O blood. Alkalizing it may be, but toxic to many, yes (about 60% of North Americans). This is one issue I have beef with, but of course, not many would give credit to another author in their book, but D'Adamo's work on Blood Type Lectins should have been addressed.
Robert Young is not really a picture of health. I initially found it difficult to take the health advice of a bald man with a pasty complexion. But, he could have went bald 20 years ago for all we know. I DO know it's possible to regrow hair in balding areas, as Gary Null has proven time and time again with members of his health support groups.
I commend Young on one issue: fruit. For years, he was the ONLY one saying that fruit is acidifying. People were mocking him, calling him a baffoon, etc. I know, I was one of them. Over time, more and more have come forward, agreeing with his theory. It wasn't until Gabriel Cousens postulated the same theory, that I was sold on Young's initial findings. I give him all the credit in the world for the fruit issue. He is an innovator.
This book does an excellent job in promoting supplements his company sells. His supplements are good, and taking them will certainly benefit us all, but it seems a little biased when you make references to your own supplement line throughout the book. No other leading health advocate does that.
All in all, this book is extremely beneficial to anyone seeking to improve their wellness. A raw food, alkaline diet as he suggests is the missing link in today's world. If everyone in the world at like this, it would be a world of peace, love, and caring. Tell enough people about this diet, and you are helping the world's cause. I'm serious about this. This diet opens up feelings of love that are instilled at birth, but hidden under layers of toxic sludge we've put into us over the years.
Bravo, Dr. Young. Fine work.
Pseudoscience And QuackeryIt is amusing to read all the pro-Young apologists' retorts to criticism of this awful book. Instead of addressing the substantive points that critics such as Glenn E. Rodey raise, we read *ad hominem* attacks--the calling card of the overly emotional and the ideologue--and attempts to avoid the subject by referring to such red herrings as the parochial AMA, medical doctors' general lack of sound nutritional knowledge, and the like.
For that reason, let us recap the facts, so that they stand out unmistakeably.
FACT: With respect to his "credentials", which he is very reluctant to disclose, Young has far less credibility than any licensed medical practitioner.
Young received all of his post-graduate degrees from an unaccredited correspondence school. That is not how a reputable scientist and researcher educates himself. Playing at home with one's chemistry set, and then offering one's results as conclusively proven, without independent verification, is not sound science, either.
FACT: Young claims to be a world-renowned expert in various scientific fields, when he has never published an article in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
FACT: Young has a documented history of involvement in multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes.
FACT: Young's book is filled primarily with anecdotes from individuals who praise the miraculous effects of his diet. The "unsolicited testimonials from unknown parties as a substitute for evidence" ploy is a very old and, to the intelligent reader, unconvincing one.
FACT: Young's documentation in this book is extremely sloppy. He does not tie his references to footnotes that support his specific claims. As another reviewer mentions, Young also cites to extremely outdated and utterly discredited research in support of his acid/alkaline thesis.
FACT: In 1996, under a plea bargain, Young pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempted practice of medicine without a license. The plea bargain agreement provided that the charge would be dismissed if Young stayed out of trouble for eighteen months. [Source: "Herbalist in Alpine Pleads Guilty to Reduced Charge". *Deseret News* (Salt Lake City), February 5, 1996].
That said, there *may* be some merit in the dietary principles that Young advocates. From my personal experience, I tend to doubt it (There is no credible evidence of which I am aware that the body does not by itself do an excellent job of neutralizing any nutrients before they enter the bloodstream). My point here is that this is not the book that succesfully demonstrates these potential, but unlikely, merits. Therefore, use this book as a basis for experimenting upon yourself, if you like, but beware of the risks, and beware especially of this book's, and this author's, superabundant flaws.
Note: Please, before you accuse me of being yet another shill for the AMA, know that I actively practice dietary supplementation, that I have been treated by practitioners of complementary medicine, and that I have an interest in, and a great respect for, *genuinely* scientific alternative approaches to health, nutrition, and medicine.
Do not major in minor thingsI believe the stuff in this book because I know from experience that it works. I would like to address those who are so focused on attacking Dr. Young's credentials. You are majoring in minor things. I am sure you have read many books by the so called MDs and gotten very conflicting messages. One says this will save your life, the other says this will kill you etc etc. Who cares if he is not so "qualified"? If you get results that is all that matters. I love the "qualified" MDs because they do miracles everyday especially surgeons God bless them. And I have to say they make the most mistakes too. If these MDs were perfect, then no one would ever hear death sentences like " Your Leiomyosarcoma has metastized to the lungs and you have 6 weeks to live." It does not always work when they prescribe going under the knife then consecutive chemotherapy that has a ton of side effects that many times leads to life or death. Or when they employ a nocebo effect on the patient like a statistic that says "90% of people with your ailment die from it." the poor fellow who may be in the 10% will only think of the 90% part. They are not perfect. And yet there are people who have said 'no thanks'to that and gone on to try vegetarian raw food or something like that and come out with zero cancer cells after a few months/weeks/days etc and stayed in remission. Yet we are told there is no cure for cancer .......... We must be critical thinkers and stay open to alternative ways. This kind of tunnel vision has ensured that the drug companies who had you at hello keep profiting while you stay sick. Think about it. Most people believe it is normal to be daily medicated/have several ailments at a time because just about everyone they know has that lifestyle.
This issue reminds me of the controversy about another book, "A Million Little Pieces" (google up the stories) People started making a big deal out of nothing just to bring an author down because he had sold 4 million books mostly within a few months. I like the way Oprah called into Larry King during an interview with Frey (author)where she dismissed the whole affair as "much ado about nothing" and urged readers inspired by the book to "keep holding on." As in to stop majoring in minor things.
You people trust the so-called "Traditional Authorities" (MDs)too much. This Cognitive dissonance is the cause of many miserable/sick lives and unnecessary deaths. No wonder most of the population is so gullible they all flock to the chemists to buy an avarage of 10-15 pills a day. 10 pills for all your ailments and 5 pills for all the side effects of the first 10!!! Then one guy like Dr. Young comes along and tells you there is a simpler way, you are quick to oppose without trying probably because you think it is too hard or too simplistic or too something... Anyway I understand that there is freedom of speech so you are expressing your opinions. It is in that same premise that I am expressing mine. So I guess we will just agree to disagree...
To Doctor Young if you are reading this, I say keep up the good work. You are saving so many lives you will never know just how many. Thanks for providing this kind of knowledge to people with open minds. To the people who would like to try his suggestions, I say you have nothing to loose and a ton to gain, maybe even your life so just go for it. I think people who love their meat too much and all the other junk just get frustrated at his suggestions and choose to justify their rationalizations. The dichotomous thinkers whose only intention is to attack credentials and then flock to the pharmacy, you remind me of something Albert Einstein once said: "Great minds have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."
Ponder that for a long while.
I Live ItI read the book. I do what it says. And it works.
I lost 20lb in 1 month, dropped 40 cholesterol points, am no longer hypoglycemic, and no longer have allergies.
I have friends who use the supplements recommended. One has reduced her insulin from 6 shots to 2 shots per day. One no longer has ankle swelling. One no longer has constant fatigue.
As with any book, it works only as good as you apply it.
Ground breaking workI've tried every diet out there. Candida Diet, IBS Diet, Paleo, Atkins, Vegetarian, Vegan, Fruitarian, 100% Raw Food, and so on. I found flaws with all of these diets, as you really have to rely on your own inner wisdom to be able to make these diets work. And of course, anyone who promotes such a high meat diet hasn't really done their homework.
However, Dr. Young in this pH Miracle book really opens new doors for those willing to improve their health and well being. He lays it all out to you in lay language, and gives you step by step tools on becoming well. His "Alkalarian" diet seemed flawed to me at first, because as a long time raw foodist, I saw that he recommended steaming some veggies, eating cooked grains, and cooked legumes. However, after becoming frustrated with being 100% raw, I discovered a new sense of well being on this diet. My body was craving alkalinity the whole time and according to him, fruit is to be used only for cleansing and in moderation. It was always the mainstay of my diet.
Dr. Young promotes his supplement line in the book, which is bunk, but everybody has to make a living. I understand the hardship of poverty, so I have no beef with this issue.
This diet is a cleansing, energizing diet that will open up the creativity and spirituality within you. Watch how kind and loving you become. Of course, you need to take care of the stress in your life, but this diet is the key to unlocking the doors that are keeping you from reaching higher levels of consciousness. Kudos to Dr. Young and the Alkaline diet.
Half and half: good yeast program, bad diet for someDr. Young's new book is half good (his candida/yeast information), half potentially dangerous (his unbalanced diet). I discovered Dr. Young and his earlier books through a friend and loved his Candida-control program. (I had the worst candida problems while I was a fanatic Dr. Young vegetarian.)His yeast research is great, but viewing his new book, and having lived his precise diet for a time, his recommended diet just hasn't worked for me or my family. I know some people seem to thrive, and the people that work for him push the diet with a religious fervor that borders on Stepford. The diet is not for everyone, please be forewarned. I believe we are all biochemical individuals, and have found, that after a decade of vegetarianism which nearly killed me, it is a diet not ideal for all. I recommend take the first part of this book to heart, the second part with a grain of. . . ummm, salt?
It Works!I reluctantly followed Dr. Young's pH Miracle program and in 1 month my cholesterol dropped 67 points and my HDL's went over 60, 35 lbs. dropped off my body, I passed kidney stones I didn't even know I had and I started waking up at 4:00 am with tremendous energy. There were other positive changes as well. I agree with Anthony Robbins, "Anyone who takes the time to understand Dr. Young's principles and apply them will experience a revoluton in their health." This has been my experience.
Another "Sure Thing"Interesting reading and interesting theories, but unfortunately no credible background or backup is supplied. I would like to see empirical data on Dr. Young's diet and more information on his qualifications, education and business. As we view on TV and read every day, testimonials are a dime a dozen and rarely stand the test of close scrutiny. Drastic changes in diet such as Dr. Young suggests, have been touted by many "experts" and some have proved to be quite dangerous and sometimes fatal. PLEASE discuss with your medical professional before trying this!!!!!
HOW MUCH SIMPLIER CAN IT BE?Just yesterday, 4/13/02 I received THIS book in the mail from Amazon.com. I truly believe in Dr. Young's 'New Biology', but I'm personally having a hard time putting it into practice. However, each day I keep trying and "I DON'T PLAN TO EVER GIVE UP!" How I need it! Few understand what being full of "candida" and a "sugar addict" actually means! Believe me it shows. You will understand when you read this book and have just the "faith of a grain of mustard seed!"
I like the way this book has been written. Although I also have Dr. Young's previous book "Are You Sick and Tired", I find this one so much easier to understand. I believe more people will appreciate Dr. Young's work and words in "this" book.
I just wish I, a user of his Interlight products, could make "everyone" see where this 'New Biology' is headed. ...
A Self Help Book You Can UseDr. Young has put the many pieces of the self-help, health care puzzle together for everyone to understand and use immediately. His facts are simple, when your blood is acid that fosters disease, when your blood is slightly alkaline, health is restored. Dr. Young book basically tells us to eat 70-80% vegetables with 70-80% of those raw. He recommends you clean your system with 4 quarts/liters of pure water per day. Once you are healthy, an ounce of protein at a time would be ok. There is much more to understand and this simple description does not replace reading the wealth of information in his excellent book. I have been a chiropractor for 30 years. I have a PhD in nutrition. Much of this is not new, just put together well. I find this information the most helpful in 40 years of studying (and teaching college level students for 17 years). I only state my background to rebut the detractors who have written reviews against this book. After seeing thousands of patients, I understand first hand what health care poviders know, people will not change their ways unless they think they are dying and then it is hard to get them to take better care of this miracle of a body. I follow Dr. Young's book with excellent results. Family and friends are having excellent results and I am buying more copies to share with yet more family members and friends who have health problems that persists. You only have to look at the current state of health of the American public. Disease is rampat no matter what name you give it. We all know those who have passed-on with dis-ease is many organ systems, why the dis-ease? Restoring alkalinity to the system just makes sense. The bottom line is if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired you could try Dr. Young's plan to see if can restore your health. Do not take my words or the words of anyone else, your health and life may be in the balance. As Dr. Young describes, your urine should be slightly acid or neutral. Buy litmus paper at a drug store and check yourself for acidity. How acid are you? For about the cost of a fast food meal, Dr. Young's book may be the best investment you make in your quality and quantity of life. Three other very self-helpful books I use in conjunction with Dr. Young's book are, Eat Right 4 Your Type by Peter D'Adamo, naturopathic physician, The Pulse Test by Arthur Coca, M.D., and Bloodtypes Bodytypes and You by Joseph Christiano. Only you may be able to discover what helps you if you have a health problem that persists. Hopefully the information in one or more of these books will help you:)
In my opinion... this book is the key to optimum healththis book is an eye opener as to what the detrimental effects of having an acidic body chemistry are .his analogy of "the fish in the aquarium" is so simplistic but so profound. we poison our bodies with medications everyday without thought of changing the environment within.he asks.."would we treat the fish in that environment?" an emphatic "...NO... we would change the water, we would change the chemistry. the foods are one way to alkalize your body chemistry and another way is to take sango coral calcium, which is 100% absorbed and also alkalizes the body chemistry. the medical community is all structured on the "germ theory", but the truth is ..it all starts from within...fungus, mold, candida, yeast...all flourish in an acidic environment...and too their waste products are acidic...it's like they have a big party inside and the end result is your deteriorating health and the decomposition of your body, in reality.
the good news is anyone can reverse this process by alkalizing their body chemistry..even cancer cells do not thrive in an alkaline environment....so then , if the medical community is so far advanced, why don't they first..alkalize the body chemistry?
instead they go about destroying the good cells along with the bad. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out, it's really high school chemistry class.i have seen first hand a transformation in my own mother with alkalizing her acidic chemistry..everything from no more GERD, acid reflux, esophageal spasms, no more arthritic pain in her hands that before could not even grip a pair of scissors and her diabetes holding her blood sugar below 100, for the first time in 10 years.i have seen the result of ridding your body of acidity...first hand....an i for one am doing everything in my power to maintain an alkaline chemistry to keep my cells in their optimum environment to ward off degenerative diseases.
I Wish Dr. Roy Walford Would Review This BookInteresting stuff, however I wish that Dr. Roy Walford would review this material. Where is the consistently reproducible experimental evidence? Throughout the material all one finds is testimonial evidence and nothing more. Appears the authors are equally or more interested in profitability than research. Where did Dr. Young get his academic training anyway? Where are the consistent publications normally to be found by reputable scientists?
Be careful to examine the nature of evidence before pursuing this one.
My overall experience with this diet was good but definitely not a miracle.I decided to try this book after Anthony Robbins recommended it on his "Get the Edge" program. He raved about the diet saying that he felt amazing while only getting 6-hours of sleep. He said he would work long hours and come home feeling refreshed.
He really sold me on it.
I needed energy like that to get my business started so I decided to give it a try.
The initial cleanse was very difficult for two reasons. The first problem was that it made me feel really sick. The second problem was that the cleanse wasn't very effective. The book says you're supposed to have bowel movements 3-6 times a day. However, by the 3rd day I was lucky to have any at all.
I do commend Mr. Young for having such a thorough book but in the end some of the stuff just isn't practical. I found a nice natural laxative, like he recommended, for the cleanse but it made me feel even weaker than before. I couldn't do this cleanse and take the natural laxative, it was just too taxing on my system.
I went on the diet for about 3-months without feeling any better. Probably because my cleanse was poorly done.
I knew I had to do the cleanse again so this time I searched on the Internet for a pre-packaged cleanse program.
I ended up finding a system called "Ultimate Fasting Cleanse" which worked very well. I had better elimination and I didn't feel sick at all. After I was done my hunger was gone so I guess it worked to clear out my "Candida".
After that I started back on the diet and I'm doing considerably better. However, I didn't experience any of those amazing effects that Robbins was raving about on his CD.
The diet is definitely worth doing. The benefits go beyond just losing weight. I don't feel hunger pains like I did in the past, I have a better sense of well being and my allergy problem is better (not perfect but better).
Despite all of the progress I have made the diet was still very disappointing because of my high expectations. That's not Robert Young's fault because he doesn't really hype up the diet.
However, the "Alkaline Diet community" as a whole makes this diet out to be some kind of "miracle". Maybe it is if you are sick but I was relatively healthy and I wanted to feel amazing.
I didn't get that from this diet.
If you are going to do a vegan, raw foods or alkaline diet this is probably the best diet for you. It's probably also good for people who are desperate to lose weight. However, I think the diet is too restrictive and the cleanse is too harsh for casual dieters looking to lose a few pounds.
It's also not a miracle for regular people.
The pH MiracleI have spent over 25 years balancing research on and use of integrative or complementary medicine processes to achieve and maintain health. I actually came to the Young's book by accident when I was verifying that I was not at risk for some health issue as a result of drinking our well water which at the time was high alkaline. Amazingly, during that time of high alkaline water, both my husband and I found that health issues we each had had for years were disappearing! I first found the results of the Japanese government into the health benefits of alkaline water and establishing an alkaline environment in the body. Those reviewers who dismiss the Young's work lightly obviiously did not evaluate the pages and pages of references they give to research in this concept. I approached the Young's work with a set of evaluatory criteria and a basic "does it work when I use it" requirement. I am impressed. Even adopting some of the most basic tenets of this approach to nutrition can have a significant effect. And it can happen with just changing basic food and water intake even if you never buy as product from the Youngs or attend a seminar. This is truly self-help at its best and achievable even by folks on a limited income who cannot afford expensive and sometimes less useful supplements. Give it a try if you want to feel real energy and healing with relatively simple self-care!
Where's the Documentation??When an author on a medical topic purports to offer a miracle, my antennae immediately extend. This theory reminds me of similar stuff that was popular back around the US Civil War, nearly 150 years ago and long discredited. Where is the documentation? Upon what science is this material based? We don't know, because the good doctor didn't tell us. Either we should infer that since this book is aimed at a popular audience he considers footnotes inappropriate; or, perhaps there just isn't any hard science backing this up at all?
Dr Youngs health plan saved my dad's lifeIm 12 years old, and a year and half ago, my dad almost died from Kidney disease. The doctors gave him no hope! He flew out to meet Dr.Robert Young. Then he started drinking the Green drink and eating very healthy. Today my dad has no sign's of the Kidney disease! Thank you Dr. Young! Read the book, eat the way Dr. Young says and most of all drink your Green drink! I wish everyone who reads this book good health!
Diet Advice for the GullibleThis authors present many of their personal beliefs about the value of an alkaline diet as fact, when there are no studies referenced that back up their claims. Adverse health conditions can occur from either alkalosis or acidosis. In reality, there are health conditions where acid forming diets are often medically recommended, such as in the case of some types of kidney stones and for people suffering from urinary tract infections. Interestingly, a number of studies in recent years have shown that vinegar and coffee, acid forming foods, may help improve insulin sensitivity and thus help control diabetes, a common health problem in the U.S.
On page 32 of the copy of the book I have the authors state that acidification and overgrowth of negative microforms are the root cause of "every symptom, illness and disease." This sweeping statement alone should make readers stop and think. What about conditions like scurvy, Down syndrome, rickets or a protein deficiency? While acid-base balance of body fluids has been established as a factor in human health, there are many other factors such as adequate vitamin and mineral intake, exposure to infectious diseases, genetic make-up, getting enough sleep, exposure to too much or too little sunlight, stress levels, exposure to toxins etc. that all impact health. It is overly simplistic and unsupported by research that acid-base balance is the answer to every health problem that happens to people.
One of the reasons Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine teachings have become popular in the West is that they incorporate the concept of balance. In Eastern medicine if someone's body fluids are too acidic, then they should eat a more alkaline diet to bring things into balance and vice versa. In Eastern medicine there is no single diet that is right for everyone.
Are most people in the U.S. really suffering from chronic acidosis and almost everyone needs a more alkaline diet? Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. You wouldn't really know from reading this book. There are no studies that I could find specifically referenced in this book to back up this claim. As noted above, there are common health conditions such as some types of kidney stones, urinary tract infections and diabetes where research has shown benefits from consuming acid forming foods. The pH Miracle book does list many studies in its reference section, but they are just a list of studies not tied to any specific sections of the text, and most of the titles of the studies didn't seem to have much to do with acid-base balance.
my lifelong dermatitis - goneeczema, dermatitis, neurodermitis, whatever you want to call it. i had it. it was all over my body, my skin was red, dry, shedding, oozing, bleeding. since i was a young kid, i went from one dermatologist to the next trying to find ways to ease my pain.
the last doctor i visited - just a week before i bought this book - told me i had to learn to live with it. devestating news.
this book turned not only my skin, but my life around.
there is some comments here, that i have to agree with reluctantly. if you are looking for bullet proof science with decades of accumulated studies and research by well known institutes, you will not find it here. this theory is proven in practice, not in theory.
the big pharma industry - which usually backs elaborate "scientifically accepted" studies - has no interest in supporting somebody in claiming, that total health can be achieved without the use of any kind of medication what so ever.
the knowledge shared in this book has the potential to change your life no matter how sick or old you are.
so many scientific studies have shown how "great" of a remedy the newest creams and patches, pills and therapies offered by the medical industry supposedly are. to me, they where not worth anything. i tried "them all", none did little more than temporarily releaving my symptoms.
whoever proves in practice that their system works - wins.
the informationn this book holds has proven to me to be a winner.
Not Reading this Book Could Cost You YearsThis is without doubt the best book I have ever read, studied or come across on the area of health, energy or nutrition. Without this book it could cost you years of time, thousands of dollars of book and fad diets and pain and frustration. Dr Young's life work is to break down complex research into simple steps that anyone can follow.
Dr Young's discoveries are now being researched at John Hopkin's university and by Dr Neil Solomon of the United Nations. This book follows a simple, easy to cover plan that simply involves diet and some basic supplements.
The main challenge with this program is people need to want to. People have to decide that they're ready to take there quality of life to the next level because this book will produce answers now. Even the best programs don't work if the participant doesn't have the motivation to follow through.
My personal favourite is chapter 4 for eating right where it covers all the basics of what foods you body needs and why. I also enjoy chapter 6 on food combining because it outlines basic steps anyone can take to effect their meal plans to save digestive energy. Dr Young outline the effect consumption of proteins and startches and also the best time to eat fruit.
Even though it's not stated this book may have a weight loss component if the program it strictly adhered to because of it's incredibly healthy strict diet.
This book is not for everyone. You need to be serious, and if you are the this book will give you answers. It also contains many immediately implemental recipes. In fact it has so many recipes in the back section of the book that it could easily have been a healthy recipe book by itself.

Response to previous reviewerTo the previous who mentioned the beneficially acid-environment in the stomach and colon:
I had contemplated the same facts, and then I heard an audio interview with the author where someone raised the same point. His response was that yes, certain systems/organs in the body are acidic and are meant to be acidic (such as the stomach), while some should be alkaline, but it is the pH of the blood which is an indicator of the overall acid/alkaline state of the body, and it is the blood (referred to as the "river of life") that should be alkaline.
Not trying to support any position, but wanted to pass along this info.
Complements Hygienic philosophyThe authors are going straight to the public hence perhaps the lack of peer review sitings of which I know there are many. The germ theory of disease has caused untold suffering and innovative concepts (although not new) in this area are helpful. The bodies drainage ie purification processes(which includes the immune system), the process that removes cellular waste (urea and CO2 among others) is checked or impaired by a mode of living that uses up "nerve energy" faster than it can be recooperated. This auto-generated acidifying process was not mentioned.
Also fruit IS in most cases alkalizing not withstanding the fact that some peoples internal sugar processing is impaired along with other impaired functioning powers. As was stated for better digestion fruit should be eaten separate from proteins and starches.
Mostly their ideas are good and need to be presented. I give less significance to their high priced products.
An Amazing Revelation!Follow this program and your health will improve by leaps and bounds! In fact, there is no other way to improve your overall wellness greater than adjusting the pH level of your blood.
There are certainly other areas of your health that are important such as controlling stress, proper sleep and exercise, to name a few, but by cleansing your entire system by increasing the alkalinity of your blood, you will greatly decrease your chances of contracting such debilitating diseases such as cancer and diabetes.
Although the program is difficult to conform to it exactly, I would not hesitate to follow it word for word if I had a major illness. (My guess is that I would beat whatever it was that I had!) For those of us that are generally in good health, monitoring the pH level of the foods we intake will greatly help our fight against Mother Nature. A must read.

Author of, Aging Is NOT An Option!
DisappointedI read this book with great interest, as I thought the acid/alkaline balance in the body was the answer. But when I tried the supplements, especially the hydrogen peroxide I had problems. When I FINALLY found foodgrade hydrogen peroxide, it said it was for external use only. I still used it as instructed, but I had such severe symptoms that I felt I should discontinue the treatment. I was not sure that it was safe.
It should not be so hard to find the supplements required for this theory to work. And I wonder why we can't heal ourselves by a healthy diet alone rather than taking a rash of supplements that aren't easy to find?
I couldn't even find the supplements the author supposedly sells via his website, so I gave up. I am trying The Omega Diet instead.
Essential to your Health! You will not regret buying this book -- it is one of the better ones out there. There are "doable" steps to bringing your body into balance, building into a flexible and tasty diet. I had a condition doctors said would never change (in my blood), but through bringing my body into a healthy pH, the condition disappeared. If you really want vibrant health, you must take your body's condition seriously and educate yourself -- start making changes, no matter how small. You will only wonder what took you so long!
I also recommend, "Your Body's Many Cries for Water."
Health 2 YouThe book brings Light to those who have been unknowingly in the dark about the food pyramid, what's healthy and what's not. Generations of "good" food choices promoted by the food industry, the medical profession and the diet-gurus has only lead to ill-health and with The pH Miracle one can now determine one's own health direction. Having applied the principles of Dr. Young's research found within his book, I no longer need thyroid meds after 25 years of challenges with thryoid dis-ease and radio-active iodine treatment. It's been a God-send for me and now my son has also benefited from reading The pH Miracle and applying it to his life.
SUPERBI was amazed at how accurately Dr. Young described the symptoms I'd been suffering with for so long. I am 32 years old, and I have been suffering with severe back pain, depression, chronic fatigue, poor concentration, and obesity since I was 19 years old. I had tried so many diets and excercise programs, but none of them worked. I had an extreme amount of water retention and my stomach area swelled as if I was 3 months pregnant. I felt so empowered after reading this book! It gives a solution to all the health problems I had struggled with. After 4 days of the plan, I had lost 3 pounds. Within one week, my eyes looked brighter, my hair was thicker and shinier, I had lots of energy, and in general, I felt GOOD. Honestly, since then, I have noticed that even though Dr. Young's plan is very strict, even if you don't follow it exactly, and you do "cheat" now and then, if you just keep with it, you will lose weight and feel better. I am excited to continue the program for life. I have also recently purchased "The PH Diet for Weightloss" and it is also helpful.
Good info, but not an easy read & a drastic approachI have been a follower of the acid alkaline diet and lifestyle for 2 years now, and I can tell you from personal experience that the concepts layed out in this book work - with a few footnotes (keep reading).
I met Mr. Young in a covention a few years ago, and I must say, his presentation was quite convincing. He showed videos of actual body/blood cells changing under the microscope into other types of cells in response to a change in the blood pH. That got me hooked.
But when I picked up this book, I was a little lost. The book is not a very easy read. In a lot of spots, Mr. Young gets a little too scientific, while in other places, he doesn't give enough evidence to prove his point.
Also, the book suggests a very drastic approach of doing a "cleanse" to start off with an alkaline diet. This is pretty much a cold-turkey approach to health. In that respect, I think the advice in the book is not practical - not to mention the fact that most people get very sick during the cleanse and end up quitting alltogether.
Like anything else that you do to your body, a gradual approach is always best. I found that home study courses on acid alkaline diets tend to be a better guide for those who want to start slowly. Not just because they give step-by-step instructions, but also because they thend to get you to an alkaline state gradually.
Is Acid Really the Culprit?I have read this book and I do not agree with it. Certainly eating vegetables is a good way to go and will help you lose weight- no doubt about it!
However, the author cites acid as the cause of all of our ills and diseases. Let us take a good look at that. Ascorbic Acid, you know Vitamin C, which is said to be the closest thing to cure the common cold. Guess what that is an acid.
Linaus Pauling, a real doctor, not one that got his degree online at some school that he can not reveal, used to take up to 15,000 mgs a day of ascorbic acid (over 200 times what Centrum has). Did it kill him, no he lived into his nineties, over twenty years longer than the average man. So much for acid being bad.
And the stomach what is that composed of? HCL, Hydrochloric acid, and if it did not, you would not be able to digest your food. Also that acid, destroys bad bacteria, parasites and yeast.
In addition to this there are other acids which we need to survive on, such as Amino Acids, which are in every protein you eat. Also I am sure you heard of Essential Fatty Acids, Omega 3's. Scientists will tell you they are some of the best things to eat, and are essential to the body. Still think acids are bad?
The bottom line is the authors credentials are dubious at best, and he should have stuck to what is true in his book. That is that vegetables are the best thing for you and will help you lose weight and get healthier!
Comments by an MD who has written a textbook on acid-baseI have looked over 'The pH Miracle' and concluded that the underlying ideas are the same as those presented in another book by Dr. Young, which is titled 'Sick and Tired.' I have published a very critical customer review of this other book at its page on amazon. Readers who are considering buying 'The pH Miracle' may wish to take a look at that review; it is dated January 27, 2004.
Hard to followI like red meat and wine. That said, my take on this diet plan is unsatisfactory in that it is not comfortable or easy for someone like me to follow. I have a high intake of fresh fruits and especially vegetables, but this diet plan insists that you exclude red meats and alcohol of any sort. If you already follow or appreciate a vegetarian lifestyle, this plan will really appeal to you. If, like me, you truly enjoy a good steak or BBQ'd burger and wine with your dinner, you will not be able to subscribe to this plan. The research and basics of this diet are sound, but stringent. It might be okay for a few weeks and you might even lose a few pounds, but I can't help thinking that there has to be a better way. I had a good level of success with the Fat Flush diet plan and with Atkins, but I can't help but hope that there is a reasonable alternative to exreme dietary restrictions that will actually yield success. I am now trying the theory that it is okay to eat like a normal person but watch your intake amount/combined with moderate excercise as the real way to lose weight and keep it off. I like the idea that you can eat what you like, moderately, and increase you activity as the lasting method for fitness. Good Luck to all!
The pH MiracleThis book has changed my life. I always knew there was some simple answer to my weight problem, and balancing the ph of my body is it. All the testimonies inside are a great inspiration also. I especially love the recipes that helped me from feeling "limited" with my diet. I don't feel like I am dieting, because this is a lifestyle change, and one that will benefit me the rest of my life. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is tired of being sick or just sick and tired. Easy reading and it really works!
Review by a ph MiracleI read this book in about 2 days, immediately started applying the principles, and immediately started seeing phenomenal results. This IS the key to health. In my case, I have lost 130 pounds to this date, and have gone from a 48 inch to 36 inch waist(and shrinking). My wish for all is that you too may reclaim your inner terrain! I have benefited so greatly from this program. For me, it was rather effortless(this from someone who has done it all from optifast to atkins). This can not be called a DIEt, rather a wonderful lifestyle change. It is not about giving up those "bad" foods, it is about becoming pH balanced and those "bad" foods giving up YOU! Read the book, definitely worth it!
The proof is in the pudding, err broccoliPrevious reviewers have complained that there is no documentation, that it is dumbed down etc. Well you only need to follow the advice given in this book and use your own powers of observation to see all the documentation required. It works. Plain and simple. No degree in science necessary! The interesting thing, at least for me, about an alkalizing diet is that while I went in to this diet looking to lose weight, I quickly found out how great it is to have lots of energy, both physical and mental, and it is now about being healthy (of course the weight continues to come off). Highly recommended.
The proof is in the resultsDr Young has proven that our diet radically affects the conditions of our blood cells and physical health. And we can reclaim our health in a healthy and safe way.
For those looking for the 'documentation' and proof of his theories, I can only say one thing - the results of people's health improving and shown in the blood cells under the microscope tells a more solid story. In fact they tell the whole story. It's not theoies that just sounds good to your ears, but does not produce result (or have side effects). Even Dr Neil Solomon from the UN says (about some of Dr Young's theories on cells) " IF I had not seen it with my own eyes (under the microscope), I would say it's scientifically impossible".
"Theories" are just useful ways of explaining why things are the way they are. Many people can come up with fancy theories, but their theories don't produce results. Look at the Atkins diet for example, great simple theory, and people DO lose weight, but they end up looking haggard and 'dried up' and unhealthy with overworked kidneys, because with that amount of protein they are taking, the body is filled with toxins, acids and they are losing water weight more than anything else.
Dr Young's theory and suggestions enables people to lose weight, reclaim their health, and many have experienced healing from several illnesses. And all that is done in a safe and healthy way.
A lifestyle change you can life withAs one reviewer wrote, you need to read this book with an open mind. I was looking for a lifestyle change that I could live with and I think I've found it. In a day and age when obesity is at an all time high, we need to take a good look at what we're eating and why we're becoming overweight. The author suggests eating vegetables, certain fruits and,on occasion, certain types of fish. The argument that we will not get enough protein and calcium on such a diet has been dispelled based on the evidence (testimonials in the book and other reviews). The change is a bit overwhelming at first but I've noticed a difference in myself already. Reading this book will make you think twice about what you are eating and what it is doing to your body/health. Anyone looking for a lifestyle change should consider reading this book.
This book was interesting- but....................I have been searching for the ultimate weightloss program, something that I can do, that
1- won't cost me an arm and a leg
2- won't take up every minute of my day thinking about it- and/or preparing for it
3- has tons and tons of useless information that also will take up all of my day
Well, this book and diet has all of it. To my unhappiness!
I do have to say the book explained alot about food- digestion,
and how to stay healthy.
The only thing that I really got out of this book was - EAT VEGETABLES, VEGETABLES- VEGETABLES- well I could have totally thought of that- who wouldn't loose weight just eating vegetables!
So there goes my interest in this Miracle Diet- it is all
vegetables!
I would pass this one by-

Do your own researchI am very much interested in the Ph balance view of good health. After seeing all of the good reviews for this book, "The pH Miracle," by Robert O. Young, I decided to get a copy of it. I read it through completely and found a couple of his comments and analogies were helpful, but for the most part, it left me confused and even somewhat skeptical. I decided to do some further research. After stopping by at his website, I find it quite hideous that he has photos of himself and his wife on virtually every product bottle that he sells!
I find it equally hideous that he conducts his "retreats" all over the world costing the participant tens of thousands of dollars! I find it sickening that on his website, you can arrange for an appointment to see him for an "evaluation." He will see you on the appointed day for about 7 hours conducting his "evaluation." The cost to you: [...]!
But the most disturbing and appalling thing is this: all of his so-called "credentials" have been achieved through "correspondence" and come from schools that have not been accredited. Non-accredited correspondence schools that have health-related instruction almost always advocate unscientific concepts. Not only that, how in the world can you possibly learn to care for patients through correspondence!
On his website, it states that he received a MS in nutrition in 1993 and received his D.Sc. with emphasis in chemistry and biology in 95' from the American College in Birmingham, Alabama. In 97' and 99' he received a PhD and ND from Clayton College of Natural Health.
Both of these schools are non-accredited correspondence schools. The Clayton College states that it is accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board. But these are not recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, which means that "accreditation" by them is meaningless. In fact, it has been reported that one student from Clayton College received their B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. diplomas dated on the same day!
In 1996, under a plea bargain, Dr. Robert Young pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempted practice of medicine without a license and was promised that the charge would be dismissed if he stayed out of trouble for 18 months. [Herbalist in Alpine pleads guilty to reduced charge. Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Feb 5, 1996] Young claimed that he had looked at blood samples from two women and simply gave them nutritional advice. The blood test he advocates has no scientific validity.
Speaking of his "blood tests" that he conducts and teaches, this also is a money-making scam and is nothing but quackery. Live blood cell analysis is a scam. [...]
Is it any wonder he conducts his 5 day "live blood cell analysis" course for a price of [...], plus another [...] for a microscope.
I can say much, much more but dear people, we need to not only keep our PH in balance; we need to use our minds, making sure that it is in balance as well. Wake up and do the research yourself. Your health deserves it! Money-making scams are everywhere.
My Digestion has IMPROVED almost immediately within 5 Days!!!I have tried to do a Raw Food Diet for about 3 months but it was a little too extreme for me to maintain on a regular basis because of society, friends and family.
When I transitioned off a fast, I started thinking I needed more proteins (eggs/chicken) I fell of the wagon and did a 180 back to overeating and lots of animal meats/fats and started smoking again!
This book has help get me back in that mindset again.
I dont think I can live as a vegetarian... however this book provides valuable information for modifying your diet even if you dont want to give up meats.
For example, he discusses food combinations and suggests that eating meat with starch is bad. Since I've started doing this i noted much better digestion almost immediately. I only eat veggies with meat if I have chicken/beef, but only once in a while can i have a starch with meat but only on rare occasions.
Dr. Young also suggests getting away from the typical American Breakfast of eggs/bacon and encourages veggies or soup for breakfast. I started doing this and have grown more accustomed to this. I havve sprouted protein tortillas with avocado and olive tapenade with spring greens and cucumber for breakfast. Its very delicious with a cup of black tea in the morning. Its a nice change from oatmeal, butter & sugar in the morning or fatty bagels and eggs or panakes that are too heavy on the stomach after fasting over sleep. The idea is to consume more water-based and alkaline based foods to balance out your Ph Levels.... ie) More Veggies!
The science behind this is true in many ways from my experience.
I once suffered from Acid Reflux. When I went Raw Vegan last year my allergies and depression faded, but since that is too extreme for me I can at least follow a Ph Program that can give me similar results and one of the big problems this is targeting for me is Bad Digestion.
So if youre afraid of being told to go all vegetarian but cant seem to do it, this book will at least open your mind up to making vegetables more as the main course rather than meat for optimizing the alkalinity of your body and improving digestion.
I havent even finished reading the book but..........
The bloating, indigestion, gas issues I've had are improving also with probiotics recommended by the author (i didnt buy his products, just had my own probiotic) and elimination isnt a problem any longer. I plan on getting the PH Strips to test my drinking water as well and my levels internally to see where I'm at.
I notice I eat less now and my cravings for sugar are slowly subsiding. I cant wait for the pounds to drop now.
Buy the book, take what you can and apply what feels right as long as youre health is improving.
good and badThere is great common sense info here. Eat more veggies, i.e.--alkaline YES!! It will make you feel better. I just wish there was more REAL science in this book , and there is a lot of info that is just not true. Acid is not a dirty word. The stomach is acid for a reason! And the skin which he incorrectly asserts should be alkaline--(look at the products on his website) also maintains a slightly acid mantle for a reason---it keeps out bacteria. I am a health freak, so I love it when someone advocates a healthier, vegan, more alkaline lifestyle. But, I also want accurate, scientific, thoroughly researched info without ANY agenda. And, alas, I can't say that is what this book offers.
Informative book!!You must read this book. I am a true believer in the pH miracle. I have already lost 10lbs and I have lots of energy!!
The Book is Beyond 5 StarsThe pH Miracle is an expression of Dr. Robert and Shelley Young's core courage of certitude. They know what causes sickness and disease and they know what causes healthy, energy and vitality. You do not get sick and tired you do sick and tired. You do not get healthy and fit you have to do healthy and fit. The old paradigm of sickness and disease is a scientific illusion. The new paradigm of health teaches us that sickness, disease, heatlh and energy are a matter of choice. We are free to choose for ourselves which is our God given right. But we cannot choose our consequences. There is no free agency in consequence, only in choice. This is the first law of the universe -- the law of duality. We can choose love or we can choose hate. We can choose peace or we can choose war. We can choose light or we can choose darkness. We can choose health or we can choose sickness. And we can choose life or we can choose death. The ph Miracle and The pH Miracle for Diabetes teaches us this law of choice and the Young's share with us the truth about how to make the right choices. If we follow the principals outlined in their books their can be only one outcome -- incredible outstanding energy and health. I am certain about this because I have experienced the consequeces of my good choices of incredible outstanding health and energy. Thank you Young's for your courage to stand up with courage and certitude to finally share with the world the truth about how to have, keep and hold on to incredible outstanding health, energy and fitness.
The pH MiracleThe pH Miracle is an incredible wealth of information. I was introduced to it through the supplements Dr Robert O. Young speaks of. Three days after starting the supplements my childhood allergies were gone. This led me to investigate more and apply his New Biology. Applying it has let me enjoy no more asthma, tendonitis, and no colds in two years when everyone around we was getting sick. I have never felt better and had more energy than when following this program. If you are experiencing any health challenges then you owe it to your self to fully investigate this program. If you want to take responsibility for your health this is the program to show you what good health truly feels like. I truly believe that Dr. Robert O. Young will win a Nobel Prize for his contributions and will be the one my daughter's children learn about in school. This program has led me to a new career as a Microscopist trained by Dr Young educating and coaching those who want to follow this program. I have not seen this program fail but I have seen people fail the program.

The book for perfect healthI recommend this book for everyone. Dr. Young states that all disease can be reversed. I have found that those who follow these concepts truly do get well. This book is for those who want to be healthy and live life with passion. Kaye, RN
Dr. Young is on to something big!!Since I have been working in the nutritional industry for the last 8 years, Dr. Young is bringing everything together to make sense! If you want to make a positive change in your health, I recommend you read this book. Yes, there is similar information out there, but I feel this author is onto something big! He not only tells you how to correct things, but gives you ideas how to incorporate it into your life! I feel Dr. Young is going after the underlying "cause" of disease and not just traditionally treating an ill with a pill!
A Duel ApproachThe principles set forth in this book have been for me the basis of not only my own good health but the good health of many, many people I know. Instead of using his or any supplements though we have chosen to eat concentrated whole foods because we know the body recognizes and utilizes whole foods better than nonfoods which taken in large amounts become at their worst druglike and are fragmented at best. Combining both has resulted in amazingly fast progress in healing and building health. Dr.Young has certainly given the public wonderful knowledge that is much needed for which we thank him.
If only everyone read this book.......America would be a better place to live. Somewhere in history the propaganda machine kicked out important nutrition information that was largely based on private interests. And now, here we are; sick, tired, diseased and frustrated with life.
This book makes sense. Before reading, however, question your beliefs...and not just the ones you WANT to question...question all of them. Then, you'll find it easy to accept Dr Young's suggestions. The most obvious one to question was that about breakfast....I don't know why breakfast is some over-sugar'ed bowl of cereal or pop-tart in America.
Start with the cleanse. It'll reset your sugar cravings and help you understand the mental component of food, eating and hunger. You'll find during a cleanse that you have more energy than ever, feel light and free, and yet still, somewhere in the back of your mind, some part of you BEGS for food. It's like a little monster that exists within your mind...but don't worry, after very little time, it is starved to non-existence, along with you belief that eating food is in important part of your every day social life.
Read this book and then recommend it to others.
Excellent book for healthy eating and losing weight! After reading this book, I purchased the required supplements, and both my wife and I started the PH Miracle diet together. Just 30 days later, I have lost 25#, and my wife has lost 19#. Also, I have eliminated many of my health problems, ones which the doctors were unable to fix.
Living Proof TestimonialMaybe this book isn't as technical as some would like it to be and I agree that the recommended diet is hard to follow for a lot of people on the go BUT I am living proof that Dr. Youngs program works EXTREMELY well. By following only SOME of the principles Dr. Young recommends my life has changed DRAMATICALLY. By eliminating soda, sugar and coffee(tea) and using Super Greens religously with Biolight and Prime PH I am literally a NEW person. ...WILL change your life as well!
Must HaveThis book is changing my life and it is sure to change at least some of your diet if not all. I am so very grateful to Dr. Young for sharing his knowledege with the resort of the world and for his wife for sharing so many wonderful and delicious recipes.
Do yourslef and your health and big favor and get this book!! Education & knowledge on what we are putting in our bodies every day is a must!
Theoretical ideas, impossible life styleI ordered this book based on a conversation with one of his fanatical devotees who claimed him to be the next Jesus. I tried the diet, but found it to be impossible to do. It is the most draconian diet I've ever seen and I've seen a lot in my 59 years.
I even agreed to speak to the guru himself, who charges $10.00 a minute for a phone consultation. He must be a very modest guy to charge such inexpensive costs for the privilege of hearing him impart his wisdom.
While there is some truth to his advice about nutrition, much of it depends on whether you believe what he says. For example, he says to avoid corn because "it has mycotoxins." I read exhaustively on the Internet for information lending credence to this tenet, and found nothing to prove that corn consumption will place the consumer at risk for mycotoxin poisoning. Likewise, his advice on meat consumption, which claims that all meat carries a host of "microforms." Although I am a total propenent of a natural lifestyle consisting of abundant vegetables, Young's theory forbids all fruit, condiments of any type including vinegar, pickled foods, cereals, dairy products of any kind including eggs, meat of any kind, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam. The diet is impossible to follow, I repeat, unless you are a complete fanatic.
The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your HealthI have never been an overweight person, but I bought this book to help me adjust my diet so that I could rid myself of eczema and acne. I often forget that skin is an organ and thus needed to make certain adjustments in my diet to address those two skin conditions. This book helped me make some much needed changes to my diet, lifestyle, and how I look at food.
Awesome!Great Book. I thought I knew about nutrition. Every word makes total sense. Saved my health.
Not All Vegetarian Diets are Made Equal. Please take Youngs' "The pH Miracle" program AS A WHOLE --- cleans + control + provide (please read the book for the detailed explanation and understand the whole concept). Being on a vegetarian diet does NOT necessarily mean you are on the way to a complete health, because Not All Vegetarian Diets are Made Equal, and a vegetarian diet is not necessarily the alkaline diet.
Yes, "we are all biochemical individuals". Being a biochemical individual, each one of us has weak tissue/organ unique to him/her caused by inborn/acquired factors. And that's why we need to PROVIDE our body individualized nutrients/supplements. Otherwise, you can be "nearly killed", especially if you eat a lot of NON-organic and/or ACIDIC vegetarian foods and drinks, and if you DON'T PROVIDE the nutrients for your week tissues/organs, and if you don't CLEANS.
On "The pH Miracle" program I lost more than 30 lb in the 1st 4 weeks. It's been 2 moths since I started "The pH Miracle" program and my toothache has never come back (please see my previous posting on Sept. 24, 2003). My health is now in its best state I've ever experienced.
"This is about love. It's about caring and sharing, and lifting people up, and making all of us enjoy what we are destined to enjoy, a better life, a better quality and quantity of life. We are dying too prematurely. We are dying with diseases that are based upon lifestyles." Have you heard the voice of the loving heart? If you haven't, please read the book and feel it.
"The pH Miracle" program is the wholesome, complete, natural health program that the whole world ought to follow.
Too drasticThis book was not helpful to me in balancing my diet. It requires that you completely change your diet to eating grasses and stuff that you cannot find in my little town. I did not find it helpful at all.
Good general nutritional ideas gone amuckContains many well corroborated general guidelines regarding improved diet and nutrition. However, the author often takes these guidelines to the extreme. Discerning readers will carefully consider his recommendations before implementing them. Yes, cooking in microwave ovens probably should be avoided especially by health compromised people but they are very much in use in Russia today- they were reinstated ten years before the copyright date. And I doubt that microwave ovens render meat protein useless. Also, Dr. Young seems to have too many proprietary interests which of course raise questions about potential conflicts of interest and, therefore, the validity of his dietary claims.
I tried to confirm a few of his stated "facts" by trying them myself;I could not. Use common sense when you read about corn, peanuts, and mushrooms.
I am juicing green vegetables daily and love it. I expected more from a Ph.D.
change your lifeWith the changes today in how we view our health, this book is great. The need to understand how we can control our own health is without so many drugs and is within these pages.
Same old papThe value of an alkaline diet is not disputed but Mr. Young's methods and products are not the only way of achieving the desired results.
I met this author at a book signing in Honolulu and he seemed more interested in selling books and wheat grass than being open minded about other supplements. A booked called the Tao of Detox seemed more informative to me.
Give it a try before making judgement, the results speak for themselves. My dad highly recommended this book and the way he has been talking about it to all his friends, made him seem like some kind of cult leader. At the time I had all kinds of health issues and didn't know why I always felt so bloated. I did actually think the things my dad said about the book made sense. I read the book and found that I agreed with most of the things in there. I decided that I had nothing to lose and started doing the diet with my dad's help and encouragement for 2 years. The most amazing thing is that my sinus problem that I had for the last 16 years miraculously went away. I could not believe it. I had been breathing through my mouth for nearly all that time and all of a sudden I could breathe through my nose again. There were other benefits too, my skin was glowing healthily to the point that all my friends asked me what I was doing. I no longer felt bloated, in fact I never had to jump on the scales anymore, I always knew that my weight would be exactly the same, my ideal weight that I'd been striving to achieve unsuccessfully forever. I also have to add, I rarely get sick since I started following this diet. In the last year I haven't been following the book as strictly, I allow myself little evil treats every so often and I know I pay for them.
Unfortunately, I'm not very good at convincing anyone to follow the facts in this book, only people who are already interested in health and well being. I only want to share this amazing book with anyone who really wants to take a positive and guaranteed step towards better health. There are no secrets to being healthy, it really comes down to what your mother always told you, eat your greens!.. and lots of it. The answers are really often staring us in the face. It really is hard to resist the temptations of modern day processed food, so it's all about mind over matter. This book should not really be seen as a diet, more like a way of life, the healthier life.
For those of you who do read this book and go on to follow what it suggests, congratulations, on your good health.
Things we must know and are not being told....I loved this book. I learned things that we should all know and are not being told by traditional ways in this modern society. I think everyone should read this book and just become aware of what we need to know to be healthy. It is written in a very understandable way.
ok, but I have a better answer for you....I got caught up in the hype when I saw this on a TV talk show. I never really got into it. I think it's too restrictive for almost anyone to follow...Just east a moderly good diet and Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. Build it into your lifestyle, talk a short walk every day at work for your 15 minute break twice a day. go to the gym 3 days a week...don't eat refined sugars, or animal fats (this includes cheese and milk)...there's your diet plan..It worked for me!
Revolutionary Theory and Practice Backed by ................The "New Biology" is a revolutionary theory that challenges the orthodox viewpoints on disease. Backed by strong evidences, scientific observations and reasoning, and Dr. Young's wisdom, the New Biology not only advocates a natural healthy lifestyle that modern lifestyle has long deviated from, but also finds solutions to people who wants to live a natural healthy lifestyle on the foods that are poisoned by such chemicals as pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, additives, etc. and whose nutritional value is greatly affected by chemical fertilizers, food processing and preservation.
I've been on the pH Miracle program for more than two weeks and I've seen improvements on my health already. I've had gingivitis for more than one year and tooth cleaning in dental clinic plus electronic toothbrush, ultrasonic inter-dental cleaning device, floss, antibiotics, etc didn't solve the problem. I was using antibiotics and going to have one of my teeth pull out again right before I started the pH miracle. A few days after on the program, my toothache is alleviated significantly and I stopped the antibiotic. And now I haven't had toothache for the past week. My gum feels and looks much healthier. The infections are gone because, according to the New Biology, my blood and tissue's pH is getting balanced by the pH Miracle program and is not suitable for the germs to grow. I've more energy and better mental clarity. I really appreciate Dr. Young's wisdom and braveness.
Some people write reviews on the book with resentments to MLM, which is NOT fair for the book, NOT fair for Dr. Young, and NOT fair for all readers. It only shows that these people's viewpoints are very biased.
Great work, Dr. Young! The world will remember your work! All the people who change their modern lifestyle to your pH Miracle lifestyle will thank you from the bottom of their heart!
Editorial Comment ReviewIt seems that every Editorial Review of Alternative Medicine always end with the statement 'it's wise to check with your doctor before starting off in search of miracles'. Isnt it a fact that most people have lost faith with their doctors who really dont know anything much about the human body and are only the 'gatekeepers' for referrals to their colleague consultants in hospitals. Ask a doctor what is the cause of each disease and he will answer you with a blank expression and a prescription for a pharmaceutical drug with a long list of side effects. Press him further about the drug interactions with the organs of the body and he will come out with a view that overall its well tolerated by the organs endorsed by the pharmaceutical companies. Doctors in the UK have about 5 minutes consultation for very patient. Thats enough to take your mandatory Blood pressure and to scribble some prescription. The problem is that most patients treat doctors as the source of all medical knowledge which they are not. The respect them too much. They are just body mechanics in my view and there can be various competency levels as well incompetency levels of such mechanics. So, if you want to get medically fit then you have to start treating yourself with a healthy diet and exercise. What Dr.Young says is not gospel truth but goes a long way in my view to encourage you on the road to a healthy lifestyle. Ask my local doctor and all he will do is prescribe dangerous drugs.
Researched and documentedThis is a well developed book. He has a clear idea why and how to resurrect a very ill body into a healthy one. It's concept is fabulous and resonates with my understanding. I found the regimen to be a bit too strenuous for me to undertake completely, but, if I were very ill, or may someday become diagnosed with a severe illness, I would head this book by the letter. I do try to be consciencous of my eating habits and try to follow his recommendations as close as practically possible.
I have sent a copy of this book to my daughter, a friend of a realtive who is close to diabetes, and a dear friend who is recovering from a brain tumor. I wish all those who seek it good health.
"Ionized" and alkaline water - a scam? There are many contradictory claims, which are confusing. On the website of chem1 there is a very detailed article (search for ""Ionized" and alkaline water"). Below you will see some of their claims. Who is right?
"Ionized water" is one of many products and panaceas that the wonky-water wellness industry flogs onto the large segment of the general public that lacks the scientific background to distinguish scientific fact from pseudoscientific hype when the two are closely intertwined. The purpose of this page is to critically examine some of the claims about "ionized" and alkaline waters from the standpoint of modern chemistry and physiology in order to provide you with the information you need to make your own informed decision before opening your wallets to the hucksters of these products and whose claims are totally lacking in scientific support.
What most of these outfits actually sell are grossly overpriced electrical devices that purport to produce "ionized" and alkaline water by the process of electrolysis. Many of these "water ionizers" appear to have their origins in Japan and Korea, two countries whose populations seem to be particularly susceptible to being taken in by pseudoscientific water-treatment schemes. In North America, distribution of these dubious devices has depended largely on multi-level marketing schemes that enroll science-ignorant dealers to exploit even-more-vulnerable consumers while enabling the manufacturer to maintain a low profile to regulatory agencies such as the FTC.
...............
You won't find anything about the benefits of alkaline water in any standard textbook on nutritional biochemistry, and anyone with training in physiology or biochemistry would consider the claims in favor of it ludicrous, but the alkaline/ionized water quacksters and scammers have woven a nexus of scientific-sounding nonsense and outright lies in order to convince a gullible and scientifically-naïve public that drinking partially electrolyzed water (produced by their over-priced "machines") is the key to health.
...........................
The bottom line
Here, in a nutshell, are a few basic facts that I believe anyone with a solid background in chemistry or physiology would concur with:
* "Ionized water" is nothing more than sales fiction; the term is meaningless to chemists.
* Pure water (that is, water containing no dissolved ions) is too unconductive to undergo signficant electrolysis by "water ionizer" devices.
* Pure water can never be alkaline or acidic, nor can it be made so by electrolysis. Alkaline water must contain metallic ions of some kind -- most commonly, sodium, calcium or magnesium.
* The idea that one must consume alkaline water to neutralize the effects of acidic foods is ridiculous; we get rid of excess acid by exhaling carbon dioxide.
* If you do drink alkaline water, its alkalinity is quickly removed by the highly acidic gastric fluid in the stomach.
* Uptake of water occurs mainly in the intestine, not in the stomach. But when stomach contents enter the intestine, they are neutralized and made alkaline by the pancreatic secretions -- so all the water you drink eventually becomes alkaline anyway.
* The claims about the health benefits of drinking alkaline water are not supported by credible scientific evidence.
* There is nothing wrong with drinking slightly acidic waters such as rainwater. "Body pH" is a meaningless concept; different parts of the body (and even of individual cells) can have widely different pH values. The pH of drinking water has zero effect on that of the blood or of the body's cells.
* If you really want to de-acidify your stomach (at the possible cost of interfering with protein digestion), why spend hundreds of dollars for an electrolysis device when you can take calcium-magnesium pills, Alka-Seltzer or Milk of Magnesia?
* Electrolysis devices are generally worthless for treating water for health enhancement, removal of common impurities, disinfection, and scale control. Claims that "ionized" waters are antioxidants are untrue; hypochlorites (present in most such waters) are in fact oxidizing agents.
................
So buying a "water ionizer" is a very expensive way of obtaining a solution that you could in principle make yourself by diluting some laundry bleach, and perhaps adjusting the pH by adding a weak acid such as lemon juice. But would you want to drink this "eau de Clorox"? Don't try this at home!
..........
Will water that purports to be "ionized" or "alkalized" make me feel better, younger, more vigorous, etc.?
Quite possibly, yes! Studies have shown that placebos can relieve the symptoms in about 40 percent of those who suffer from chronic ailments. They are probably even more effective for those who are inclined toward "alternative medicine" or the "wellness" industry. In other words, if you "believe" that something might help, it may well do so, and the more people are made to pay for it, the more eager they will be to have their beliefs confirmed. (Remember those Monty Python apartment towers that would remain standing only as long as the residents maintained their faith in them?)
Excellent Health SolutionI am only 37 years old and I already suffer from acid reflux. I am pretty healthy, I used to eat, fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, whole wheat products, but some how I kept getting sick. I couldnt understand how eating healthy food, like onions, garlic, bell peppers, could make me sick. Well, I purchased this book, and I have tried to stick to the philosophy as much as I can, and the results have been wonderful. Now I can eat more, enjoy the foods I like, like vegetables, and not feel sick. By the way, I am also petite, but to my surprise eating this way made me lose some fat around my waiste and I feel full of energy. I recommend this book 100%
Changed my life!I have been dealing with some health issues for over a year. After reading this book and implemeting the Program, the results have been nothing short of miraculous. I have never been happier, healthier, clearer, or filled with more energy in my entire life. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand their health and how it relates to every other area of your life!
The PH Miracle is Truly an Eye-OpenerI've been following the very basic principles of this book for about 7 months now. Over the course of this time, and not following it as closely as I should, thus far I have still shed over 30 pounds with very little effort. I had reached the point where I had tried diet after diet with unsatisfactory results. The PH balance theory, as described by Dr. Young, made a lot of sense to me. I figured at the very least to test the water at home (we have a well system and the PH is now balanced to just above 7) and the water at work (bottled--it tested at 6.0). I use baking powder (one alternative suggested) to raise the PH of the drinking water at work. This simple change has to be credited for a lot of the success I've had.
Another change I have made is to try to avoid any artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame, suclarose, and nutrisweet. The calories in sugar (yes, an acidic no-no) are still better for you than man-made chemicals which are toxic to your cells, and frankly if you consider a teaspoon of sugar has about 18 calories, if memory serves, it's still a fairly negligible amount of calories versus the questionable alternatives to sugar.
The PH Miracle book, and the companion books by Dr. Young, is an easy to follow guideline. For me, it certainly has been a miraculous find. I plan to re-read it and incorporate more of the suggested changes into my diet.
It Just makes SinceWe are now going on five weeks on Dr.Young's ph miracle and its awesome. The whole family my children included have adopted Dr. Young's practices and we feel great. We have lost weight and inches off of our waist its truly a great way to live.
Acid/base theory interesting... watch out for MLMI found this book to be very interesting and easy to read. Like some of the other critical reviewers, I wish the author had more sound credentials. But, as with any kind of "alternative" way of thinking, you'll have plenty of naysayers and classically trained professionals who say anything that hasn't been researched to death and written up in some kind of medical journal is hogwash.
What I found helpful about this book is how the author laid out a "Transition" plan. If you are the type of person who wants to move away from animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) and sugar and not have to do it all cold turkey, this is an excellent format to follow. It's realistic, advising each transition could take up to 6 weeks, which makes perfect sense. Anyone trying to change a habit needs to make the change and stick with it for a minimum of 30 days before a new habit is formed. Some of the transitions will be easier for some people than others... for instance I would have no problem eliminating dairy products but would have more trouble with transitioning away from pasta made with white flour.
Unlike some reviews here, I didn't think the author spent much time highlighting his own line of products. He certainly didn't reference them throughout the book. However, he did find ways to sneak his stuff in there without you realizing it and you ended up finding your way to the multi-level marketing business for his products. I'll give an example. In the supplementation chapter, he discusses finding a multi vitamin that contains certain vitamins and minerals PLUS "all twelve cell salts". So I went to my local health food store in search of this type of vitamin. Not to be found. Plenty of good multi-vitamins, just none containing cell salts. So I did an internet search for this kind of product, and found Young's products as the only ones containing cell salts, and then also a link for "business opportunities" and voila, there's the MLM stuff. It irritated me so much I just wanted to throw the book away.
But, I decided to take from the book what makes sense for me and ignore the stuff that sounds too extreme. It is basically a raw food diet, which apparently works well for people who have chronic health problems including rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. Another reviewer said to check out the Acid/Alkaline book from Christopher Vasey, so I'll probably look at that one. And I have family members who have read "Eat Right 4 Your Type" and had good results with that as well.
Basically most of us need to eat better. Once we do, the weight will naturally fall off. Ultimately what I liked best about this book is the method of transitioning yourself away from animal products and processed flours and sugars. And of course you must check with your doctor before incorporating any supplements into your diet, especially if you have any chronic health problems.
Impove your healthI trained under Dr. Young as a microscopist. Part of Dr. Youngs knowledge that is a part of The pH Miracle was his ability to watch as the red and white blood cells improved in quality and function as individuals began to eat healthy foods. As the blood improved in quality and function, health always improves. In "The pH Miracle: Balance Your Health" Dr. Young gives us knowledge that allows us to improve our health if we are strong enough to break away from our bad habits and move to better choices in our diet and lifestyle. My health definitely improved as I followed suggestion from the book.
Great info!!I read this book and started doing some of the things suggested. I started out the first week dropping soda, then the next week coffee while at the sametime adding a green drink, veggies and less fruit. I felt better. So I started going off of meat this last week, I tried tofu for the first time and its not as bad as i thought it would be if bought flavored, I tried italian blend. Total in 3 weeks I have lost 7 pounds and 2 inches! I dont have very much weight ot loose so that probably all I will lose but the results are impressive. I dont need as much sleep as I used to. I used to fall asleep around 9 while watching tv now its midnight and I am just starting to dose off! I am so not a night owl! I am now! I am up to 2 green drinks a day, have alot more energy that I used to. I really feel that I can stick with this and keep a healthier way of life going. I havent done the cleanse yet but I am soon. The thing I am amazed about is that I am not craving junk food, coffee, tea or soda. I really thought the coffee would be a struggle but I am doing great! He does say that once you get used to the way of eating you will loose your cravings. I will say the only negative that I have had is an increased grocery bill from buying fresh veggies. I can live with that!
pH MiracleWow is all I have to say. This book is amazing, and it reads well, too. I love the recipe section in the back as well. Highly recommended!
WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE PH CONCEPTThe PH Miracle is a very good book, easy to understand, but to put into practice is another thing. I live in France and most of the products mentioned in the book are hard to find or the health food stores are not located in practical areas. Fresh vegetables and fruits are easy to find, but French agriculture use many pesticides and fertilizers, so... Ideally, I would love to be able to become a vegetarian, but I think I would need lots of time to transition and it is quite difficult with family to change things at home. The PH Miracle is an ideal for me.
THE Ph MIRACLEGREAT BOOK CAN SAVE A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY WHEN MAINTAINING YOUR HEALTH. IT MAY SAVE LIVES TOO.
It works miracles...as the title says!I think a good dose of skepticism is warranted with all health claims...Doctors and pharmaceutical companies included. I approached Dr. Young's work with a healthy dose of skepticism, but found that his approach lacked any suggestions that would be considered harmful (like the Adkins diet)...and that the best test was experiential...so I tried it for myself. I lost about 10lbs in one week, while never feeling hungry, and with no increased exercise. In addition my energy level skyrocketed and remained constant throughout the day! Although I did not have any particular health concerns to address, other than fluctuating energy level and a little extra weight...so my story is not miraculous...but certainly positive.
What is miraculous is my father's story...he had been 30-40 lbs overweight, suffered from a severe case of gout and arthritis to the point he could barely walk at times. He also had a brain tumor that impaired his speech had caused him to go blind in his left eye...which the surgeon said was a permanent loss and definitely not reversible with any know treatment. Upon beginning the program my father only made some minor changes...eliminating acidic liquids like coffee, soda and sugary drinks...and replacing them with purified alkaline water...a gallon a day. Within a month he had lost 30lbs, and had completely cured his gout and arthritis! He looked and moved like he was 15 years younger! With this miraculous success, he agreed to increase the amount of raw greens in his diet and reduce meat, and other acidic foods like sweets...this was very difficult for him to do...but he plodded forward and supplemented his diet with a green drink and an alkaline salt's drink as well. He also quit drinking and smoking at this time. In January of 2009 we went to visit Dr. Young to get expert guidance for implementing the PH Miracle program and how to optimize the program to restore pH balance and increase alkalinity in the body. Dr. Young had a wonderful Physician on staff to assist with the dietary program, he also provided access to his own raw "chefs" for instruction on preparing the various meals. While we were there my father underwent daily lymphatic drainage massage, hour long far infrared sauna sessions and colonic treatments for a complete spa experience and detoxification regimen. Within four days of being on a strict alkaline/PH Miracle diet my father partially regained vision in his blind eye(as stated before an irreversible condition according to his surgeon), and his speech (which had slowed down considerably due to the brain tumor and several operations) began to speak more quickly and fluidly without pause or searching for words. He was on the road to recovering his health completely! I am grateful for the brave work of Dr. Young, because in today's hostile regulatory environment, alternative wellness approaches are vilified and their proponents are often persecuted. Health freedom and freedom of speech regarding health matters in the USA is a myth...instead we have a health dictatorship of the AMA, FDA and FTC! I can say from first hand experience this dietary approach will create miracles in your health...and can likely reverse many, if not all chronic health concerns you may be suffering from....not the least of which is cancer. I know Dr. Young can't claim his diet cures cancer...or gout...or arthritis...or blindness...but I saw it do exactly those things. One day science will return to seeking the truth and will abandon the modern politicized, for profit "pseudo science" funded by big pharmaceutical companies; that is when the "heretics" of today will be shown to have been telling the truth...paradigm shifting truth! One day the discoveries of Dr. Young will be well known...and miracles like these will be commonplace. For your own sake, be open minded enough to try if for yourself...you will be shocked by the power of food to heal you.
As Mahatma Gandhi once said "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."
"Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food."

WORST book ever!!!This is the WORST book that I've ever read!!!
The authors are COMPLETELY UNEDUCATED in the
fields of chemistry, science and medicine.
They advise their readers to DRINK HYDROGEN
PEROXIDE, which is a POISON and there is
NO ANTIDOTE for it after ingestion. It
will KILL the CELLS and lining of one's
stomach and ALL OTHER ORGANS, just to name
a few of the serious health problems that
it will cause. ABSOLUTELY INSANE and totally
IDIOTIC!!! DO NOT BUY this MISLEADING and
SO-CALLED LOUSY book. It's a BIG WASTE of
your time and precious money!
What to keep - What to throw awayBeware any book with "Miracle" in the title. Dr. Young claims that Louis Pasteur and the past 120 years of science are invalid. He seems to want to re-invigorate the "Spontaneous Generation of Life" debate that was put to rest with Pasteur's generation. He claims to have seem the DNA of microbes present within humans change to that of another microbe within the matter of seconds. His entire system of health is based on this one idea: that microforms change from benign to hostile organisms in our body based on whether our system is predominately acidic or basic - our Ph balance. If acid, look out, because even our red blood cells can change into dangerous microbes. Almost any human ailment can be traced to this one source - from headaches to cancer - according to the author. I am skeptical of this idea. What I have found useful in this book are the tables that give the relative values of protein and other nutrients in our diets. Perhaps this material can be found elsewhere? Dr. Young is advocating a vegetarian diet. I do not think his underlying justification is useful. It is difficult to judge what is useful and what is not, when the underling principle being advocated on every page seems so implausible.
Everything you eat is bad except vegetables! As far as the content of information in this book it is very informative but the diet itself is not realistic. Everything is bad to eat except, vegetables and those for the most part should be eaten raw. Tufo and a little fish are the only other things besides beans and legumes you can eat and they have to be very fresh or their bad. Even most fruits are bad for you. Even condiments like mustard, ketchep, steak sauce, soysauce, salad dressings, pickels, that's all bad!
After reading this book, I actually was a little depressed. I want to improve my health but not like this. I can't go around chewing raw veggies and maybe getting some fish a couple of times a month. Part of the human experience is enjoying foods and different kinds of them. I think this is more for people that need a drastic life change from a health ailment that they have. The one thing I do believe about this book is that the main course of your meal should be vegetables, then small amounts of meat and starch. Also, I will try to stay away from microwaving foods as much as possible. I think Jorge Cruise has a more sensable diet plan and if your looking to change your diet to a more healthy one you might want to look at some of his books.
you need a dieticianAll this might work wonderfully if you had time to do all this stuff and manage to work out how to eat exactly the way it says, but for those of us in the real world, it's more trouble than it's worth.
Great explanations of the theory, not so good diet adviseI have read this book in conjunction with several others (to cite the best ones, the Acid Alkaline food guide by S Brown and L Trivieri and the Acid Alkaline diet for optimum health in particular).
I loved Dr Young's book for the very detailed explanations on how the body is working and the effects that food can have on your body. If you want to learn about the roots of the theory, this is definitely a must-read.
However, I would advise to read this book with caution and to complement it with other ones when it comes to the practical applications and to the diet. The two books that are cited above are great ones to read in complement of this one (and I particularly recommend the one of Vasey). Several things retained my attention - and explain the 3 star rating "only" :
1. The diet that Young recommends is mostly vegetarian. He advises for fish "twice a month". Unless you are already a vegetarian, I do not see why eating meat would be worse than eating, for instance, soy, that he highly champions but that is known for having an acidifying effect (see all other sources, whether books or internet). When doing this recommendation, he seems to ignore two facts : firstly, the fact that organic production of meat and poultry allows you today to get hormone and antibiotic-free meat ; and secondly, the fact that some fishes are super high in mercury and other heavy metals, and that, while eating fish is great, it has to be done with caution. I think this advise comes from the fact that he used to be a vegetarian himself (in particular he talks about the meat as being "dead" - which is typical vegetarian credo). You don't have to follow this to the letter if you're not a vegetarian yourself.
2. Young recommends to go 100% alkaline for 7-8 weeks. Firstly, I do not think that anybody that has a life can actually do that !! Secondly, his "100% alkaline" is really not 100% alkaline, because he recommends soy as alkalizing - where soy is in fact acidifying. So his 100% alkaline diet is truly not one, proving therefore that nobody really *needs* a 100% alkaline diet. Thirdly, there are other ways to flush your body from acids, for instance by using supplements (see Vasey's book). Last but not least, this diet is highly imbalanced (in proteins in particular), and anybody who would want to go on it should seek medical advise first.
3. According to Young, reverse osmosis water is alkaline. This is not the case. I have a RO filter at home and one of the first things I did was to test it. It's highly acidic (and its because the minerals were filtered out, too).
4. Young recomments using Ph drops to make juices and water alkaline before drinking them. He even recommends hydrogen peroxide to make you water alkaline. I'm not a doctor, but I do not see how adding a chemical like hydrogen peroxide would actually be better to your body than drinking pure water - even if this is an acidic water ? The pH is not the only thing to take into consideration here ! Also, if we are talking about eating closer to nature, then why add ph drops to juices ? If juices are good for our body, this is what nature planned for us and we should not need to add ph drops.
5. Young despises algaes. Here again he seems to ignore that most medical algaes are actually grown in environmentally safe environmnts, and not polluted as he seems to imply.
6. Young recommends supplements that you should be careful of. I already mentioned the hydrogen peroxide. Same goes with colloidal silver (only use medical preparations and under medical control) or other colloidal metals preparations.
7. foods lists. No all foods have the same effect on everybody's body. It depends on individual metabolism. I recommend reading Vasey's books to determine whether fruits would be alkalizing or acidifying for you (including lemon, that he recommends as alkalizing but could be acidifying, and most fruits, that he says are acidifying but could have a reverse effect on you). Also, Young highly champions soy. As mentioned earlier, he is the only one out there believing that soy is alkalizing. Only soy sprouts are recognized as such.
Long story short : this book is great for understanding, but not for dieting... this is a good start but should be read in complement with other books. If you are seeking to improve your health, I highly recommend, on top of Vasey's book cited above, the book "lessons from miracle doctors" from Jon Barron.
DisappointingI was very curious about the content of this book, particularly since it received very high reviews and looked to challenge the typical American diet. The author completely lost me and any hope of belief when he stated that he believes that red blood cells can transform into any type of cell the body needs (yes- muscle, stem, white blood cell, et cetera). I feel like most of this book is just that- the authors theories which are not based upon science. I would have preferred if the author had more blatantly shown that his nutrition plan was related or based off previous studies conducted. While there is a lengthy reference list in the back of the book I failed to see within the text where these were used.
There are also testimonials within the book but their placement and quantity makes this book seem more like an infomercial than a book to be taken seriously. All in all, the recipes in the back look somewhat useful if you are interested in them but I wouldn't buy the book solely for that reason. I suggest readers purchase The China Study by Campbell instead as it is much more scientifically based, better written, and more eye opening.
Eliminate Eliminate Eliminate. If one was to follow the diet laid out in this book, one would be popping supplements and guzzling green juice every hour of the day. Don't eat meat, don't eat dairy, don't eat potatoes... We humans were born on EARTH where blenders are not part of the "natural environment". We were given teeth to bite things and lived for thousands of years by eating plants AND animals. The reason we are getting fat and sick now is that food companies mucked around with the nature of the food we eat in order to mass produce. An apple in 1950 had 4 times more nutrients than an apple does today. We need to get back to unmodified food and this doesn't mean just eliminate all food except green vegetables cooked lukewarm. If we were meant to eat nothing but liquid we would have no teeth.
Great Results! Doctors don't like him because you can be healthy without raking out the dough! What a great program and an interesting book to read! Dr. Young has recently been attacked by many doctors who claim that his educational background is not as strong as theirs. Even if he didn't graduate from Harvard, what separates Dr. Young from the likes of many doctors is that his program actually works! While Doctors continue to prescribe high priced medication whose side effects are often worse than what they are treating, Dr. Young gives you a whole body health plan combined with the science of medicine that produces little unpleasant side effects and at a fraction of the cost. Doctors claims to know it all but medication is constantly being recalled and often medication is only released after 5 years of study. Rarely do doctors actually study the principals of nutrition. So, Dr. Young doesn't have a top degree, but who really cares when his program works! These doctors who criticize him and thumb their noses at natural cures, aren't the ones who are sick. People often turn to natural methods of curing themselves when the medication fails them. People wouldn't stick with it, if it didn't work and it certainly wouldn't have a huge fan base if it didn't. There are a whole bunch of quacks out their and med school students should be cautious as between the good doctors prescribing natural cures, there's many prescribing quackery. Dr. Young is not a quack. If you follow his program, you will likely be much healthier than popping a pill. I ask you, what's quackery:
1. Doctors prescribing a simple pill or combinations of pills to get better?
2. Or Dr. Young's method where you actually have to work, and make changes to your lifestyle and eating habits to be healthier?
Medicine prescribes an easy way of thinking of things (pop a pill) which fits with what consumers wants, however it often makes people sicker than if they would follow a more natural route meaning (change your diet, and lifestyle) but htat's not what someone who goes to Gabby's and buys a $3.99 bucket of fried chicken and two slabs of bacon wants to hear. No, they want to eat their bucket of fried chicken, go home and pop a pill and have all their problems dissapear? Whose the quack now?
Dr. Young's loyal fans are behind him and they are behind them because they themselves have experienced results that last as opposed to being told (by faulty test studies done by pharmeceutical companies) that they will get better when they in fact do not.
Follow Dr. Young's method and find yourself feeling, energetic and healthier.
If you are sick, you should follow his method to getting healthier and by doing that, you have the opportunity to get healthier and be free of some of the health conditions that are effecting your life.
information +Nicely written. Very informative and with accuracy. A real must for those concerned about good health!
Superstitious Junk!I started looking into Ph/Alkaline diets after reading some research on how Ph imbalances in Scientific American (a source I deem credible).
A friend bought me this book to encourage my interest. However, after scanning the first 4 chapters or so it became clear what this book is...
The author talks about "studies" he organized where athletes on the Ph "Miracle" diet who wore special "EMF protecting Amulets" performed better than those not on the diet. AMULETS!!! OK!!
The author's diet advice is based upon his claim that Louis Pasteur's germ theory is wrong and instead germs spontaneously appear based on what we eat - WOW!
This book is a joke, based on junk science, superstitious belief (AMULETS!) and is a waste of time. It has me seriously questioning the intelligence of my friend who recommended it.
so soCouldn't finish this book.. the underlining pro vegan stance was too much for me.
Humans are omnivore and have adapted to get nourishment from most anything. And this authors no meat ever but maybe 1 fish a month stance was too much. Here is the summery of the book - Basically just eat blended wheat grass everything else will kill you.
We're All Out of BalanceAccording to Dr. Young, all of our diets are in serious trouble. We are eating way too many acid-forming foods. Acid forming foods lead the way to fungal, bacterial, and yeast overgrowth. That overgrowth leads to toxins being produced by the microorganisms. Cells begin to change in the acid environment and use sugar for energy instead of oxygen. Cells that use sugar are cancer cells. Cancer cells produce even more acid and a vicious cycle ensues.
Break the cycle by eating more alkaline forming foods and taking supplements. All good foods are listed as well as many acid-forming foods that aren't good for the body. Supplements are recommended.
However, to follow this eating way of life completely, most people will have to make drastic changes. I met a young girl who had suffered from shingles. When she totally embraced Dr. Young's plan of alkaline eating (imagine broccoli for breakfast), her recovery was quick and remarkable with never a recurrence.
He also claims that people lose weight. I did lose a few pounds but so far, haven't been able to stick to the eating plan 100%. The information provided is fantastic.
excellent informationthere's information here that may seem odd, but it does check out with common sense. I think there are major benefits to trying out the ideas, although can't get myself to go whole hog on all of them
Exceptional nutritional advice! No one says it better! Dr.Robert O. Young and his beautiful wife, Shelley, not only are perfect examples of this life style, but they dedicated to helping others do the same!
The Ph MiracleThe Ph Miracle explains in detail the benefits of changing our diet from an acid based diet, consumed by most of us! ( which the author claims is responsible for all illness)to a predominantly alkaline diet which the author claims cures and prevents or at least minimizes symptoms of illness. It is very convincing. The author explains the reasoning behind his claims and has done extensive research on this subject.I have just been diagnosed with Lupus and the treatment options are limited. I have been following the program set out by the author for 6 weeks now am feeling the benefits. I have more energy, seldom need pain relief medication, sleep better and am getting my life back. It is a tough program but Lupus is a tough disease and I am hopeful that this diet will continue to restore my health and vitality.
Ph DietThe book arrived promptly. I have not fully read the book, went straight for the food lists and to the store. The ph diet is helping quite a bit. My husband, my grown kids are doing it with me. The theory behind this diet makes sense. The first week we all noticed the increase of energy from the food change. We've lost some weight, but for us it's most important to eat well for our health. Recently, I ate carbs and non-list items (acidy foods) which I would eat everyday, and I felt woozy, shaky and wanted to lay down! My husband had the same experience when he ate acidic foods as well. We will continue with the diet. I would have to read more on the book, and do the exercises outline. Highly recommend the book, but also highly recommend several books to read on the subject and make an informed decision on what is best for you.
great product & serviceThis is a very good book! The world needs to follow these basic principles for eating better and regaining health. I personally prefer THE pH MIRACLE FOR WEIGHT LOSS version. All the same basic information, however, it goes into more depth in the weight loss version. To your good health.
AlkalizingAlkalizing has truly changed my life. I have lost 20 pounds without even trying. I have not been sick all winter and I feel FABULOUS! This is NOT a diet-it is a lifestyle change--make it-- you will not be sorry you did. Our diets in this country have become so unhealthy and alaklizing will get you back in line with the way I believe the Lord intended for us to eat.
Acid and alkalineI'f you're serious about your health, you will probably be interested in learning about how to balance acid and alkaline in your system for optimum health.
get this bookif you are serious about being healthy, or just educating yourself about nutrition i can certainly advise that you buy this book. Follow its advice and you will feel and look amazing. i had a friend turn me on to it and we are both loyal followers.
One of my favorite books!I LOVE this highly detailed book! It really breaks down the difference between pH balanced blood and acidic. I have made quite a few changes according to this book. Such as drinking alkaline water which is WONDERFUL! It tastes really good, it gives us energy & clears complexions those are just 2 of the many things that water does.
I can not say enough great things about this book!
It also has some recipes at the back of the book. My favorite is the sprouted wheat tortillas (Ezekiel 4:9 bread brand), with hummus and pesto spread on the tortilla with added veggies like avocado and alfalfa sprouts pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes and such,it is sooo good!
You have got to try both the book, tortilla and the water!
Good book, but I found one thing that for sure is not trueThis is a great book, and I am planning to follow it. However I found one thing that for sure is not true: authors state that Russians outlawed microwaves: not true, many people I know in Russia (including my mom) own one. Maybe he means Russians somewhere else?
Also, many reviewers state that the authors try to push their own products - I found that not to be true. They just try to point people in direction of where they might find something that is suitable for the program. I found it helpful. Just mentioning a brand that they use - does not mean pushing their product.
As far as results of following the book:I will update later. Plus, a lot of people already shared positive results.
What Insight!Great book and I learned a lot! Reading about our cells from a microbiologist was fascinating and I could hardly put this book down. His ideas and protocols were clearly explained; and he gave options for those that couldn't find or afford some of the supplements. Since reading the book I have met people that had followed his ideas and they have lost weight, sleep better, and have regained their energy. This is a wonderful resource.
Everybody needs to read this amazing book!!I have been living with MS and recently I have these symptoms that I just wanted to stop them all and make them go away. I did my research and every new book I buy I am on a new diet. Every thing I have tried has been working well for me but it just didn't gave me this absolute feeling that it was the last thing. I read this book and this balancing PH level really started to make sence to me. The diet is very simple. Why keep eating what is causing all the discomfort. You just need to make a simple adjustment and drink lots of water which is higher is PH level. I was amazed by how quick I started to feel better with hardly any symptoms. This book has became my refference and a reminder. I will definitely recomend this book for anybody with any health condition. The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your HealthThe pH Miracle for Weight Loss: Balance Your Body Chemistry, Achieve Your Ideal WeightThe pH Miracle for Diabetes: The Revolutionary Diet Plan for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics
Enthusiasm someimes overshadows scienceFirst, a disclaimer. It appears that the principle of limiting food choices in order to raise pH works. Moreover, Young's basic issues match well with other experts, such as Hyman, Fuhrman, and Ornish. I can't argue with the apparent success resulting from following Young's and those other guys' advice.
So what's my gripe? Young makes some statements that are simply absurd. Every few pages he would say something that just set my teeth on edge. The most egregious statement was that sodium would convert to potassium in the body. I think he probably meant that potassium would replace sodium in some compounds in the body. But in his enthusiasm, he made a completely unsupportable claim. Several other apparently exaggerated claims are probably also due to enthusiasm.
My quarrel is probably not with Young himself, but with whomever dropped the ball during the copy editing process. That's a shame because Young has workable advice to give.
a must readThis book changed my life! I have already sent copies to friends and family. The binding is breaking on mine already, I use it everyday. This book has vital information about the way our bodies work and what it does with the foods we eat. It tells us the why in why foods are "good" or "bad" for us. Everybody should know about pH balance. I lost weight with this book, and found news ways to cook. This book will keep you healthy so that there is no place for disease to take hold. It challenges conventional medicine that treats you after you have already gotten sick, where this book teaches you how to take care of yourself so that you never get sick in the first place. This book has a wealth of knowledge stated in simple terms. A must read!
One word of caution, It endorses allot of different peoples products, no doubt to make money. It uses Braggs liquid aminos in just about all the recipies and I would never tell anyone to use that stuff, its poison! It comes out of your pores when on a fast or cleanse, so I just skip that and use the knowledge it does provide and cook with fresh fruit and veg.
A great aproach to healthThis book has great healthy recipes for anyone trying to improve their health. The Ph list helps to visualise why should I choose to eat one food instead of the other.
Interesting diet perspective based on pH and microbiologyThe book is not only very well written, but presents a very interesting perspective about nutrion and the disease/ cure connection. It relates the pH residue of food digestion to its impact on the bacterial environment of the body and the connection to most common diseases. It defines diet recommendations based on the pH residue of food, and nutritional values to boost the quality of nutrion and promote natural healing. It gives very practial advice on making appropriate diet changes to correct or ease many health problems. There are different levels of diet based on health conditions. My closest real life experience of this diet approach is the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach. Hippocrates' approach comes close to the strictest recommendations of this book, as they work to ease very diverse and often multiple serious disease conditions with 100% raw veagan food combined with gentle exercise, massage, and stress management. Although this diet perspective is not main stream at present, I find the diet recommendations very sound as they mostly fit within the current science based recommendations, but only go further. The question is how far is one willing to change their diet habits. Every one can decide based on how they feel about their health and wellbeing. This book can be a guideline or an inspiration to many who are interested in achieving optimum health with diet.
SuperbI have read a lot of health food books... but this one is far beyond. Dr Young is one rare person who dedicated himself for health and benefit of mankind. Others are dedicated to diseases.
Here is revealed astonishing and powerful relationship of pH balance.
Most important principle:
There is only one sickness and one disease and that is the over-acidification of the blood and tissues due to an inverted way of living eating and thinking.
All health literature are after one thing - purification. It's central to the health.
The pH principle is general for all humans and animals. But it's application for particular person is always individual.
EXCELLENT!This book was just what I needed. Overweight and having stomach problems, this book helped to improve my health and the quality of my life. I enjoyed the many testimonies.
excelent! This book realy moves your paradigm from the closet to the street. Its something realy different that we have to apply in our lives to improve our health!
Helped change our lives! Its not until we changed our diet for at least a month that we realized how so much of our life, happiness, activities, etc are tied to our eating habits.
We are now on a 80%veggies 20% carbs + proteins diet.
The pH MiracleExcellent book. Easy to read and understand. Real eye opener. Tells the real story about diets and how the body functions. Offers easy steps to being healthy. Gives recommendations for diets and supplements to keep your body's pH up.
The Ph MiracleThis book is a must-read for anyone who wants to improve their health!
pH Miracle Revised...a must read.. o go read it... It is startling and accurate, but not what we have learned so we might doubt its wisdom.. Hold on: go read and consider NEW that which has been around for centuries...
Outstanding Health!!Dr. Young is onto something HUGE here! Imagine if someone came up with a pill that would make you feel like a kid again. Well there is no magic pill, but following Dr. Young's pH Miracle lifestyle and diet will do exactly that. This diet/lifestyle is not for the weak willed, but if you truly want to achieve ultimate health then you NEED to own this book! Even if you already own the original pH Miracle book you will discover loads of new info in the revised and updated version. There are no false claims in this book. Only the map for the road back to ultimate health lies within. You simply must own this book to experience what can only be described as homeostasis. Highly recommended!!
interesting concepts, poor presentationAlthough I am a strong believer in the power of nutrition over illness, I found more to dislike in 'The pH Miracle' than like. The authors present the main concept of keeping the pH level of one's food intake to match the pH level of what blood should be. Most often folks eat too many acidic foods which forces the body to make adjustments in order to maintain proper pH levels, or the body will simply die. Unfortunately these adjustments lead to disastrous health consequences over time.
But the authors are not creators of such a concept. I wanted to the book to go into more scientific discussions and guide people carefully in leading them to a healthier diet. Unfortunately the authors' scientific explanations were not compelling and, worse, they seem to set the bar very high. For example, if you eat any fruits other than lemon/lime you are going to wreck your blood pH level. But eating fruits are a completely natural thing to do. I cannot understand how anyone could suggest not eating them unless we are talking about diabetics.
However the last third of the book contain excellent recipes, ... surprisingly good. If expanded these recipes would make a fine book. But unfortunately it doesn't quite overcome the disappointment of the first two-thirds of the book.
Bottom line: an example of two ultra vegans try to preach their lifestyle to others in a "if you compromise you lose" manner. Unimpressed.
just preciousReally precious informations.A book that i would recomment to anyone to start with the PH educational trip.It opened up my eyes.I always had ph 5.5 in my urine tests and i never heard one doctor to regard it as a thing of consideration!!! Now all make sense to me...
I wonder how and why, doctors are not educated that way.The humanity would be much more healtier...
Thank you Amazon
Sitaram
Great stuffMore vital information for living healthy
I'm going to be giving this program a go to see if it clears up all of the symptoms I have personally
I would encourage more books that study the inner workings of the body without the perversion of the pharmaceutical industry
One of the most authorized book on body alkalinityWithout any doubt, for the people that are looking for information about the importance of pH, and want to learn, the layman explanations given by Dr. Young are impeccable and full of details.I strongly recommend the book.
Despite the fact that it have been demonstrated for close to 100 years that the mother of all illness is an acid pH, still the mainstream medicine do not pay attention to that proven fact.
As a companion book I suggest the reading of McCabe's Flood Your Body with Oxygen.
May work for someLet's face it. Diets don't work. People do. My next book on the subject will be "Why French Women Don't Get Fat". My daughter (who has lost 30 pounds after reading this book says that it is because our portions are too big and food is part of our socialization. I think she is right and the only way to reclaim you health is to just decide to reclaim your health and eat when you are hungry and not for anything else. There is my whole book on it and this book gets shoved in with all the other "fad diets that didn't work" section of my bookshelves.
Truly a miracle!I've been transitioning into the principles outlined in this book for one month, and am already a firm believer. Explains the causes of nearly all health problems, and the simple solution. Prove it to yourself. It really works. Thank you Dr. Young.
What a pleasure!!This book gave me all I needed to know and how to apply it. It has helped me alot. Very glad I found it.
Wow!This book is a real eye opener! It makes you really think about what your putting in your body and how one thing effects everything else.
The hard work does pay offThis "diet" has really helped my husband. After years of being in pain with gout-like symptoms (he does not have gout but he does get flare ups that are very similar to gout) this book has helped him get to a point where flare ups are about once a month vs several times a week. He does not follow it 100% and he does not take the supplements. He does though follow the 70/30 rule about 98% and he takes his own supplements which work for his body. He has had increased energy and has lost weight without losing muscle mass. I cannot say that this has been easy. Eating that many green leafy veggies is not what most of us are used to. However, if you can really get yourself in the mindset that you are going to do it and be committed - it is well worth the results.
The PH MiracleThe book is very interesting and full of lots of great anecdotal stories. I don't agree with everything they preach in it but they do have some ideas that make sense.
Interesting bookThis is my second copy of this book, as I lent it to someone and they apparently stole it... This was recommended to me by a nutritionist for medical reasons, and while the diet is hard to maintain in a real world, the ideas are great for incorporating into your life if this is something you benefit from. I bought the second copy because I needed the recipes at the back of the book! Some of the things seem gross in theory but are actually very good.
The pH Miracle, Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your HealthDr. Young has raised the bar for eating & reclaiming our health! I now feel I can be in control of my own health & well being!
this book will improve your lifeexcellent! If you read this book and take it to heart and apply the knowledge given I believe it will improve your health and well-being as it has done mine. I believe Dr. Young is 'the' leading authority on alkaline and it's importance to a healthy body.
Get Your Life On TrackFor those who are truly serious about eating and living healthy, this book is for you. For those of you looking for a miracle cure, a 6 week weight loss diet, etc., don't waste your money. For those of you familiar with Dr Young and his PH living style, this book actually explains it better, in my opinion, than some of his earlier publications. I am a pharmacist and I find the other publications were sometimes written in the language of health care professionals and not necessarily 100% understandable to the lay person. If you have the earlier book(s), keep them, but also get this one. There is new info here, better explanations on many things and some new recipes. Keep the old one for the tables and recipes and for more in depth explanations on certain points. BOTTOM LINE: THIS IS AN AWESOME PROGRAM THAT WILL IMPROVE ANYONE'S HEALTH, REGARDLESS OF HOW HEALTHY OR HOW "SICK" YOUR BODY IS! The food is tasty and you will start feeling better very quickly. Some things may seem a bit confusing in the book. Remember Dr Young is a scientist, not a writer, but he sure knows his science. If you have any questions about what you're reading just call the company and his staff will get you an answer. :)
AMAZING BOOK, don't believe me though, try it yourself and judge your resultsTo live like no one else, you must live like no one else. With this book you can't argue success.
Give this book an honest 4 weeks and follow what is being said and watch what will happen. If you think it is not working I'm sure you can get your money back. Lets first start by saying this is not your typical "DIET FAD BOOK". This also goes against conventional wisdom currently out there. However when you read about what is being said you will think to yourself," This makes sense". Also this guy has a 100% proven track record in healing people of ANY disEASE. He also has a great Facebook following in which you can ask him any question you want and have it answered. How many authors do you know that will do that to back up what he/she is saying? Also at first this might be a bit shocking to think you could live this way, I WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE saying that very same thing. I know what your thinking once you see what the way of eating is all about, however when you start going without things like soda, coffee, meat, dairy, sugar and so on you don't miss having them or have cravings for them. YOU DON'T FEEL YOUR MISSING OUT. Tell me a diet that claims that?
My short story:
Where do I start? Since first finding out about Dr. Young back about 3 years ago I started on his way of eating and treating my body. I wasn't heavy by most people's standards over weight or suffering from anything major, but just wanted more energy and avoid what most people call average aches and pains as you get older. I just wanted better health for myself and my wife who had just been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 3 years ago. Let me also say that this is what he calls a," Live it" not a DIET. It doesn't matter your condition or age or what hasn't worked in the past.
PROOF:
My tennis elbow is gone, my wife's MS is gone per her doctor (we just got back from vacation and she got sunburn for the first time in 4 years and didn't have one problem or MS related pain), my hernia is gone, my skin is clear, and most importantly my energy is greater than it has ever been. I sleep 5 or 6 hours and feel fully rested. Think to yourself on just that one fact. Most people sleep 8 hours. I get and extra 2 hrs a day more than most and 14 hrs a week. Imagine having more energy than your own kids. Aches and pains or back problems will do away your winkles will start going away naturally. Your mental attitude is better CLEARER thinking. If you need more proof than just mine go over to youtube and put in Phmiracle and watch those videos.
The secret to this program:
Start by changing one meal, breakfast for instance or dinner. Or maybe stop having coffee or soda and just drink water (good water). From there you gradually start making other changes when it is comfortable and then take the plunge and go on a liquid feast to clean out the rest of the junk in your body, and boy does it come out.
The make sense corner:
Think for one second, in what world does a double cheeseburger cost less than a vegetable? We wonder why heart attack and cancer rates are on the rise. Also consider for on second, what benefit do big pharmaceuticals have in giving you the natural way of healing yourself? They would be out of business. They are in the business of selling drugs not for making people healthier. Did you know the USA is the only country that allows drugs to be advertised on TV? Why do you think that is? Also now consider this, who knows better in healing yourself than about 2 million years of evolution in your DNA compared to the oldest drug company maybe 100 years old? Which do you trust? Your body is meant to be in a health state and free of any disease ache, pain, medicine, condition you name it. You really believe that deep down when you think about it. Last thought on this one," When was the last time your breathed out of both nostrils all day?" Do you think you're supposed to use both nostrils at the same time? What do you think having half the oxygen going to your body does over time?
LASTLY:
Imagine for one second what he is saying here in his book is true. What does that mean to the rest of the world in terms of industries and how we live our life?
A great companion book to this is Biology of belief by Bruce Lipton. This is for those folks out there really believe that DNA really controls any part of your life. This will bust down that paradigm using the leading edge of science today.
VERY INFORMATIVEI have most of books by Dr Rober O. Young, and this one is specialy good as Dr Young add new his and other saentists discovery and he summarised lot of isues. Book is easy to read and to undertand even for forigner like me. Thank you Dr Young for your work, I feel I will live healtier and longer and happier thanks to you.
PH infoSome of the information in this book is incorrect and dated. It reads mostly like a recipe book. It needs more information on research being done today. There are a few good points the book makes, yet I expected more.
The pH MiracleOutstanding publication - a lifestyle that all of us should truly adopt. I have and the results are incredible. Blood glucose from 350 down to a steady 90's with NO medication in a scant 7 week. I consider myself no longer a Type 2 diabetic. Cholesterol under 190 from 260 Good (HDL) cholesterol at 60. Energy level way up. I'm good to go. All of you out there - get the book and take it in.
great all-around serviceTHE PRODUCT CAME ON TIME AND IN THE DESCRIBED CONDITION. I WOULD DEFINITELY ORDER PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE.

Additional information about Ph of the bodyAdditional information about the Ph of the body, but still a bit lacking in information.
HELTH HELPAS I HAVE DECIDED TO APPLY THIS NEW METHOD STARTING THE NEW YEAR I HAVE NO COMMENTS SO FAR I HAVE JUST LIMITED TO READ AND ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT
Comments on PH Miracle by R. O. Young, Ph.D.I like the book because it gives very good ideas on things needed to obtain better health. It has great recipes towards the back of the book. The seller said that the book would be in "Very Good Condition". The book is obviously used but very readable.
BOOKBook was received quickly and so far has all info that I expected. PH balance concept makes sense -cannot tell you if it works or not until I have tried it for several years. The recipes seem simple and tasty.
GA lot of info but knocks everything that is not a green veggy, very one sided, needs to expand knowledge into broder scope.
It is a pleasureIn The pH Miracle, book I have read a good amount of information. Enough to help me make significant changes into my eating habits. The book has a lot more information than I have ever expected to find in an unexpensive source.
The information was eassy to understand even though I have no medical training nor have I ever taken a biology class.
The price I got from the vendor was below any one else in the market.
Thank you.
pH MiracleI have to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't hardly put the book down. I was very pleased with the service and the promptness of the delivery. Thank You.

Makes me want to learn more about Dr. Young's alkaline diet. Its written for the layman to understand. I enjoy his common-sense approach to eating the alkaline vs. acidic diet. Offers more info, and supplements to aid the health-concerned reader.
Wonderful book! This book is a great reference for those needing to understand the nature of acid/alkaline in the body. The writing is clear and well considered and the case for alkalinity is compelling while never hysterical. The information is presented in a very accessible way and case histories add a valuable experiential dimension. I've recommended the book to many friends, healthy and unwell, I'm totally pleased to have found this book....a true gem.
Human ph balance is made perfectly understandableThis is a good book with a lot of great information. So far I'm just not dedicated enough to follow the recomended diet. But I still apply a lot of the information to my daily life.
Life Changing MessageReading this book is a life-changing event! The message is straightforward and simple to follow. Balance your body's chemistry (ph) and achieve incredible health! The book is well organized and is a fantastic reference to get you on and keep you on the pH miracle program. I love the book, the program and what it has to offer. Your life will be changed forever for the better. Share it with the ones you love so they can have an opportunity for a better quality of life. It has changed my life and the lives of those that I love for the better.
The book is divided into three main sections: The Theory, The Program and The Recipes. The Theory and The Program sections have good information and stories to see how that information applies to people. The Recipes section has an over view of the recipes and the details of the recipe. The Program and Recipes sections put the theory into practice and make the revolutionary program a way of life! A must read for you are serious about your health and are looking for alternatives for a higher quality of health.
