"Clouser's Flies" is an exceptional Fly-tying book."Clouser's Flies" is an exceptional Fly-tying book. The writing is clear and concise, the photographs are excellent, and the chapters are well thought-out. This book is mandatory for the fly-tying beginner to the advanced tier, and for those of you that are interested in the versatile Clouser Fly and streamer fishing. Clearly this is the best book produced on tying the Clouser Fly; understandably so, it is written by the person who first developed the fly. On a scale from 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest rating, this text is a 5. In Brief, this book is a must purchase for your fly-tying library.
I've waited for this book for a long time.If you are reading this review you must know who Bob Clouser is and why he is so deservedly famous among fly fishermen. This book gives you detailed and clearly illustrated instructions for tying his extremely effective fly patterns. He also discusses the best materials, colors and tying techniques to use with each fly. I thought I was pretty good at tying all types of Clouser flys but this book offers tips and tricks that immediately improved my tying. It also illustrates several patterns that I've never seen before even though I try and visit his shop in Middletown at least once a year. Perhaps the most important information you will learn from this book is how to present and fish these flys more effectively. Bob discusses and gives tips on the best presentation/fishing techniques for each fly. In short, here between two covers is everything you could need or want to know about Clouser flys.
If it sounds like I'm extremely enthusiastic about Clouser flys I think I have a reason to be. The biggest fly rod fish I've ever caught in the salt the Delaware river and the Schuylkill rever were all caught on Clouser flys. I think every fly fisher should add this book to his or her library.
Simplicity rules!I love simplicity at my tying bench. While its fun to really get in there and whip up some multiple layered, exotic material, ultra-realistic pattern from time to time, in my day-to-day fishing, I want patterns that catch fish, tie up quickly, and don't break my heart when I end up snapping them off.
Bob Clouser's patterns in his new book are just what the doctor ordered; they tie up quickly, use a minimum of materials, and most importantly, they catch the heck out of fish!
I'll face any fish, anywhere, with the appropriately sized and colored Clouser Deep Minnow. It's that good. His other patterns are equally as effective, and who better to learn from than the guy that developed them.
I absolutely recommend this book for the excellent intructions and clear photography, which make this a useful tool for both novice and experienced tiers.
Terrific!Bob Clouser has written a VERY detailed, yet concise book. The photos and descriptions of the tying steps are the most detailed and highest quality I have ever seen. You will know how to tie a quality Clouser Minnow or any of the other Clouser flies. No guessing, no mistakes, no do-overs. And does the Clouser minnow work?! I'm a believer.
Naturally fantasticAs a fly fisherman, I am well aquainted with Clouser's Minnow, a fly box standard, so naturally, I expected and received the genius of Bob Clouser in this book.
I am so pleased with the high-quality pictures and explanations of when, where and why each of the flies catch fish and most importantly, how to properly tie them.
He even goes into great detail to explain what materials to use and even which flies are his favorites and why.
Thank you, Bob for a fantastic book which should be in every fly tier's library.
Very good BookFor any one interested in tying any of Bob Clouser's flies this is the perfect book. The hints contained in this book allowed me to tie much better flies
A Must Have for any serious tierIt has been a long time since I read a book with such detail. Not only are the directions and explainations to the point, but the photographs are supurb and eliminate any questions that usually arrise due to lenghtly explanations.
I have been tying for several years and books like this one are few and far between.
Clousers Done RightI fish specs and reds in the flats, and when I'm not throwing top water, I'm using a Clouser...this book has led me to experiment with other than the Clouser standards with great success. The book is well written and the photography of the flies is superb. Glad I added it to my fly library, it certainly will be a classic.
fly tying tutorialClouser's Flies: Tying And Fishing the Fly Patterns of Bob Clouser Highly recommended fly tying tutorial for Bob Clouser patterns. Tying sequences well illustrated with large, clear photos. Great for seasoned beginning or intermediate tyers wanting to advance their skills. Must have book to add to any flytyers library.
Will be a ClassicThis book is an important read for anyone who fishes & ties Bob Clouser's flies; that would probably include everyone who flyfishes fresh or inshore salt water.
Very High Quality BookThis book gives very clear instructions with great high res color pictures showing how to tie some of Bob Couser's most popular flies. He gives great advise on general fly tying techniques that will help you with other tying as well. It also goes through proportions and helps you to understand 'why' his flies are designed the way they are for better fishing. Pretty much one of the best fly tying books out there for specialty patterns.
Excellent BookThis book has great photos. You can see the detail in each instructional step for each fly. The book is easy to follow if you're trying to tie these flies from the book alone. It's a great book and Bob's expert fly tying skills come through in every fly. I highly recommnend this book.
Great resource.Great patterns, some information on use of these flies. Good book to add to your fly fishing library.
A must for any fly tying libraryI had bought this book and have used it multiple times for tying up bass, carp, trout, and saltwater flies. Very easy to follow and a lot of great information on what patterns to use and where. Valuable resource from a guy who has done it all.
book reviewThis book is by Bob Clouser. In it he shows you a fly that has his name and how to tie it. The book contains other flies that are versions of the minnow pattern. He just changes material on the fly and calls it something else. The photos are superb the instruction on fly tying are also good. That is way I gave it 3 stars. The book itself is to pricy for what you get. You can get the same info on this fly at youtube for free.
Excellent seller of an excellent bookI would recommend this seller. Bob Clouser is by far one of the best instructional fly tyers out there. I tie the Clouser Minnow in my sleep now thanks to this book. I cant say enough about how well it is put together. I would recommend it for the novice and expert tyer.
